I have a memory usage app on my screen. My computer has 8GB of memory and normally it shows around 2 GB used when I open Chrome with the 20 or so tabs I usually have open. But when I have a SatGuys tab or 2 or 3 open for a while, it is common for my memory usage to go to 5-7GB. I took a little while to track it down to SG, but when I close those tabs the memory drops back down to ~2GB or so.

Anyone else seen this?

FWIW I run Ubuntu 12.04 and Chrome most of the time. My PC is a Phenom II 955BE OCed to 3960MHz w/8GB DDR3 @ 1460 MHz. I Dual boot with Win 7 and will test to see if I have the same problem there.

Thanks,
Brad

Yep has got to be an ad, doing this.

Update your flash player. ;)

That would be my guess.
Thanks, but Chrome has Flash built in and updates come automatically through regular Chrome updates. If you try to install Flash on top of that you get major probs. I activated add block and will see if the problem goes away. If it does I will deactivate add block and try to track down the add.

Thanks,
Brad

I have problems with Facebook eating up memory if it is open for too long. Sometimes I keep Satguys pages open for a good while and several pages too if I get interrupted while viewing the pages on the site. I have not experiences issues with Satguys in the past to my knowledge but I am also a pub member and do not get the ads. I use Chrome with Windows 7.

I was a lurker and experienced the full force of the ads for over a year. I finally registered as a member and was pretty pleased with the performance until a few ads really botched things up and triggered security warnings. Those warnings were not the result of anything that Satelliteguys was doing, but was from people using google ads in a malicious manner.

The ad problem goes away if you decide to become a Pub Member. I am pleased I made that choice this year. I use Firefox in Win 7, XP, Vista, and Ubuntu. Chrome has that "googly" feeling to me and I don't support their data harvesting methods.

I use AdBlock Plus for other sites to keep the ads to a minimum, but that defeats the revenue generating potential of the website. It can be detected and some sites use methods to go around ABP.

I use Camino on a G5 PPC mac, with ad blocking by the browser, and with no flash installed. I have noticed that Sat Guys will often keep loading after the page is fully loaded.

How about a Spanish Corner forum or Spanish Channel forum
