Samsung is working on two new Blu-ray players!
As I've learned from some Samsung representatives at CEDIA EXPO 2006 (unofficially!), Samsung is planning to introduce two new second-generation Blu-ray players. The relase date is not known, but most likely this will be after this Holiday season, perhaps in CES timeframe.
Similar to what Toshiba is doing, Samsung is now going to have an entry-level model and a more advanced model. The price is not revealed, but the low-end model is going to be priced very competitively. Before setting the price, Samsung is going to closely watch what their main competitors are doing with their products, namely Sharp.
In the meantime, beginning in the last week of October Samsung is going to make a running line production improvement to its current BD-P1000 Blu-ray disc player, adding Java compatibility with the upcoming BD Java titles being released this fall, as well as a modified setting for the noise filter reduction circuit that will provide a slightly sharper picture. Both of these improvements will also be provided through a firmware upgrade to existing customers in the last week of October.
