Does anyone here have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2? Being in IT I need to keep up with all technology. I have an iPhone and iPad for iOS. We have a couple of android devices at work and its been a while since I owned an android device. Walmart has the 7" on sale for $199.

Unless you need to have the micro SD card slot, I would get the Nexus 7 over the Samsung. You can get the 16GB version of the Nexus 7 at Walmart for only $199.

I ended up buying a refurbished Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 from Walmart for $149. I couldn't pass up that price. Actually my wife was the one who found it and said get it since it was that inexpensive.

I just have to wait until Nov 26th for it to get here.

I had, technically have, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Only difference between the Tab and Tab 2 is Android 4.0 out of the box and the microSD slot, which the Tab didn't have. The hardware has not changed between the two devices. I loaded Android 4.0.4 on the Tab before giving it to my dad when I got the Asus Transformer Infinity. The Infinity is a serious tablet with the addition of the keyboard attachment. The Samsung was a good tablet, but it had to be rooted in order to support external hard drives and was very limited as far as expansion goes. Too many dongles needed to add flash memory, HDMI, and USB devices. The Infinity by itself gives you HDMI and microSD and the keyboard dock gives you a laptop-type keyboard with scroll pad, a standard SDXC slot, and a Type-A USB port. This is a REAL USB port with host support. I've been able to connect USB hubs, USB hard discs, card readers, Ethernet dongles, USB mice and keyboards. The Tegra 3 in the Infinity has no problem pushing HD video and HD Master Audio 7.1 to my HDTV. You can also watch it on the tablet's 1920 x 1200 pixel display.

When I had an HTC Evo I was able to install and store data on the external SD card. Will I be able to do the same thing on the Galaxy Tab 2?

Data on the SDCard yes for apps that support it. Programs, probably NOT (but a Full 16G filesystem for apps/internal data makes that VERY MUCH less of an issue).

Why HTC continues to make the 2 filesystem thing on the newer ICS+ phones is beyond me.

You'll love the Note II or SIII.

Quite honestly this Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will be for me to tinker with so that I can keep up with Android.

I'm hoping I can do some vintage gaming with it too. :)

How would the Infinity compare to the new Microsoft Surface Tablet?

I have yet to actually play with a Surface tablet, so I cannot comment on how well the Metro interface works on the Tegra 3. Infinity has a 2MP front facing and 8MP main camera. The 8MP camera has an LED flash with F/2.2 aperture. It takes extremely good pictures considering and does 1080P video recording as well. Video isn't that great vs. something like a Panny GH2 but it is way better than a cell phone. Surface have a pair of 720P cameras, which come to about 1MP each. The Surface screen is 10.6 vs 10.2 for Infinity BUT 1366x768 vs a full 1920x1200 for Infinity. Surface comes with 2GB RAM and Infinity only 1GB. Both use Tegra 3. Not sure whether Surface is clocked at 1.6GHz or not. Surface has 64GB option with a microSD just like Infinity. The Infinity keyboard dock is more robust, which is a pro or con depending in whether one likes the extra battery power, expansion, and weight. The Infinity is basically a mini laptop with the keyboard dock. The dock clicks in firmly and stays locked.

I paid $600 for the 64GB Infinity. $150 for the dock. $70 for a 64GB microSDXC. I already had a 128GB SDXC and a handful of USB memory sticks. I have 256GB total on the Infinity and that can go up to 384GB when the 256GB SDXC get cheap. Doesn't really matter since I can also hook up a 750GB laptop drive via USB.

I'd really be interested in the Surface Pro when it is released.
