Metal Gears are not ncessarily a sign of a good product. Manufacturers will compensate for the higher costs of the gears by skimping in other areas of the device. (why the adjustments)

Dg-280

I received my powertech DG-280 a few days ago and thought I would share my impressions of the motor. The motor is very well built; the mounting hardware is heavier built than sg 2100 which I like. The motor comes with the larger mounting tube so I ordered the smaller one for my dish, changing the tubes was a breeze. The smaller tube fit perfect, there was no issue what so ever with the holes lining up. I mounted the motor and dish to the pole and set it up on my true south sat with a meter and then hooked it up to a CS 6000. I set the motor up using USALS and it worked great, I noticed the motor is louder than the sg2100 but I expected that. I didn’t have any of the issues with this motor that I had with the sg2100 hooked up to a CS 6000.

I received my new visionsat a couple days after I got the new motor, I hooked up the visionsat to the DG-280 and set up the USALS and works like a charm. I’ve run the heck out of this motor the last few days and so far (knock on wood) no issue’s what so ever. I’m very impressed with this motor; I attached a pic of the motor mounted to the dish and pole, it was snowing when I took the pics so that’s what that white stuff is. LOL. I hope this helps someone that might be interested in this motor.

Thanks for posting back your findings, this is helpful to me, I'm shopping for a new motor for this spring. Your setup looks a lot like mine, looks like an Invacom quad on that dish? You said the 280 is noisier, is it a lot noisier? My neighbors are close and in the summer with the windows up, its probably annoying as it is, I don't really want something really noisy.

When the motor is moving on H TP it's pretty loud, my dish sits about 30 feet from my front windows and I can hear it. When it's moving on a V TP it's not that bad at all. I like the extra noise because it keep's the deer away from my dish, LOL. For what ever reason they like to lick the Invacom LNB, maybe they think it's a salt block. LOL. Night time might be your only problem with the noise from the motor.

You might try putting a few drops of Habanero pepper sauce on it.
Any cheap brand will do - but check the ingredients.
If it lists carrots, shop for one without 'em.
Carrots are what they use to tame the sauce (cut it) so it won't lite you up.
In other words, it's for the uninitiated.
Get the real stuff, and after the deer take a lick, they probably won't come back.

Of course, if you wind up with hot-sauce-loving deer, that's off the radar. - :D

DG280 Speed: 1.9°/ sec (at 13V) ; 2.5° / sec (at 18V)

SG2100 Speed: [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]1.9?/sec (at 13V) ; 2.5?/sec (at 18V)

These are typical speeds using the same weight 80 or 90cm dish. Using bigger or heavier dishes, the SG2100 slows down.

Nothing seems to bother these guys, LOL. I have one who uses my front porch for a look out. Here are some pics. :D

Wow, looks like the deer didn't mind you getting very close when you took the pictures! You might just have a pet :D

Actually I've known him since he was a fawn, he likes to have his necked and ears scratch LOL. I have to be careful because he will poke me with those antlers when my back is turned.
