so if you setup your tv rvu, you then have to feed your avr via toslink/digital/arc.

if they ever start putting 7.1/atmos/ect into the broadcasts you would be limited to 5.1.

wont 4k broadcast allow audio above 5.1?

of course its the same with smart tvs

i wonder when someone will figure a way to get the newer audio formats from a tv to an avr via a method similar to toslink/digital/ect.

TV's dont generally have a video out (anymore) only audio out. the compaint is that the optical connection only supports 5.1 (is that correct?) and so you cannot get 7.2 or 5.1.2 speaker configurations from a smart tv based entertainment like hulu, netflix, etc.

how exactly does the ARC connection work? i've never actually looked into it but i saw it on TV's all the time. wouldn't that cover you since it runs over the HDMI cable?

iirc arc only carries 5.1 atm, can it carry more? i dont see why not
