Can anyone tell me if RTN east/west is working right now.
7:30pm eastern.
I have scanned for it 2 times now and it is not showing up.

Thanks Ice...

I have just switched over to a 5000 also after all of the recomendations from this site.

So I may be a bit rusty on the settings. I believe I have them all good. Did not pick it up after the first scan, so I manually punched in the tp (11735 I think)and all I get on AMC 9 @83W is an NBC news channel (AMC9/3F) with bars showing.

Did you use USALS or DiSEqC 1.2? That is, if you used your motorized system...

After using my father's motorized using USALS for a while, we finally got around to peaking every visible sat on DiSEqC 1.2
Much easier than peaking on bad days only.

I am using USALS....

Am getting about 90% on the NBC news channel I mentioned above.

Just scanned it again, not there.

Edit:

I just checked the "Manual Scan" screen and I do not get any good signal from 11735.
Others are good signal.
Is 11735 the correct tp?
That is what I get from Lyngsat.

I suggest you go into "Manual Scan" and push the green button to "Add Transponder" there, if you haven't already.

Then switch back to "Motorized Setting" (I know, quite the run around)
Push Down then Left on the remote to change the "Frequency" to the RTV transponder you just added.

Change to USALS to DiSEqC 1.2 and use "Move Fine" to bump the motor around until you get a lock and higher Quality

If you don't get anything still, someone need to go push on the dish to see how much you're off.

EDIT: I use 11735 H 4440 on both my Coolsat 5000 and my fathers Coolsat 6000

How far can I be off if I have 90% on the other channel?

tried moving it over both east and west and there is no change to the 'Q' scale.

Not much! A couple of millimeters is all it takes. I'm wondering if you need a lift or a drop in elevation, as a guess. My fathers was off East-West by loosening one nut-side and tightening the other two by half a turn

The footprint maps for AMC9 say that most places in the ConUS can pick up everything with a 60cm dish. HAH :haha

The NBC color bar are 60cm HOT
RTV is 100cm cool on the same bird.

FYI: I get 80Q on the NBC feeds and 35Q on RTV. 11735 is a weak transponder and you might have to get on the roof and tweak your LNB focal point to get it to come in at all (as I did).

When you say "4440"....

on the Coolsat 5000 it is entered as 4.440 (MS/s) correct?

ps...

I have switched from a Viewsat toa Coolsat 5000 today. The viewsat got RTN no problem. The dish has not changed. Why wont the Coolsat see it?

I've never gotten RTN on my motorized dish. The NBC station always booms in. Since I get everything else great on the dish I don't mess with the LNB or skew. On my roof when I moved here there was an old Primestar mounted so I pointed it at AMC 9 at 83.0°W. RTN busts in at 78 SQ on my Traxis. I use a 22k switch to change feeds.

correct 4.440

In my thread of a few weeks ago concerning the RTV signal, another member (sorry, I can't remember who) suggested that I try an SR of 4560. Yes, that number seems strange, but my signal strength jumped from the mid 40s up to the high 60s and once in a while in the low 70s. The problem I have, along with others is low or no signal between about 9 and 11am eastern.

Anyway, give 4560 a try and see if it helps. ;)

No joy here with 4560. But it was fun trying. :)

The RTV (formerly RTN) transponder (11.735 Horizontal symbol rate 04.444 MS/s) on AMC 9 @ 83.0W can be a bugger!

Some locations and some receivers may have NO problems with it, and some (like me) fight and struggle with it constantly.

It is a much weaker signal than the TP which carries the NBC feed. Use that TP to get the dish and motor in the ballpark, then fine tune on 11.735.

The signal also varies in strength/quality throughout the day. Best time to attempt to lock it in is the evenings to late night.

The trick with altering the symbol rate revolved around an interfering signal from LEO-1 / Video-1 which was some sort of feed channel.
Because the frequency and symbol rates were so very close together, but the LEO-1 signal was VERY strong and the RTV signal was VERY weak, there was a major interference problem and the LEO-1 signal overpowered the RTV signal in the competition for the tuner's lock.

The RTV transponders symbol rate is slightly above that of LEO-1's, so if you increase the symbol rate of the RTV TP, you may force the receiver to lose the lock on LEO-1, and retain or re-attain the lock on RTV.

I had believed that this "LEO-1" signal had gone away sometime early this spring. I did not have any problems until just recently and when I began having problems again, I noticed that several others began reporting that they were also having problems, too. So, it is obviously an anomaly of this specific TP and anything that interferes with it. It is not just isolated to me and my neighbor across the road.

No matter what parameters you alter to try to obtain a lock on TP 11.735 Horizontal, you must be very patient and sometimes wait a long time for the tuner to lock properly. Like I stated, it can be a real bugger and worse yet, it seems to change!

I prefer to use my Coolsat 5000 to locate this signal when I make any motor/dish adjustments. It is a little faster to lock a signal than the other receivers I own. The Fortec Star Dynamic is also good, but I am more familiar with the CS 5000. I do not have a Viewsat, so I cannot compare that.

Currently, I am using the AZBox and have been getting some pretty good and relatively consistent results. Not as good as the CS 5000 but I don't lose the signal or the lock very often.

Just in case anyone is interested, I detect anywhere between 36-40% signal quality with the AZBox Premium while the Coolsat 5000's readout displays 66-70%. This is signal quality with a 1.2M dish, Invacom QPH-031 LNBF in the Omaha, NE USA area on 09/21/09 at 4pm CDT and it is overcast, but not raining.

Ive been trying over an hour to put these setting in my Coolsat 5000. When i put 11735 in "frequency" it says invalid frequency. What am I doing wrong?

thanks

Gray1,

I believe that the only times this error message will come up, is if your LNB TYPE and LNB Freq settings are incorrectly set for 83.0 W AMC 9.
Go to MENU > INSTALLATION > DISH SETTING and see what these two parameters are set to.

They should be either:

SINGLE
10.750

or

UNIVERSAL
9.750/10.600

Then go back to MANUAL SCAN menu to add this TP and ensure that the satellite selected is AMC 9 @ 83.0W.

especially considering its a H transponder ;)

Also considering the south has had tons of rain and the uplink is in Chattanooga TN that might have something to do with it
