Does a Firestick replace a Joey? I have DISH tv and I pay $10month for a Joey and $15month for Hopper. From what I understand the Firestick will help me eliminate the Joey? I'm not tech savy so trying to understand all these extra devices that DISH charges me for. The customer service rep mentioned getting a Firestick to save money on my monthly bill. Do I lose special features/benefits not having a Joey and does a Firestick give me additional value.

Yes, you can use a Firestick to replace a Joey assuming you have decent Wi-Fi in your home and the TV has an available HDMI port. The Dish Anywhere app is not as responsive as a Joey but for many people that doesn't matter, especially on a TV that doesn't get a lot of use. I would recommend trying out the Firestick and DishAnywhere before you get rid of the Joey.
I prefer a Fire TV stick over a Roku. ATT WatchTV works on FireTV, but not supported on Roku. The FireTV stick is faster than my Roku.
Wormil's assessment on interfaces above is right, though. Roku does have a better, less cluttered interface.
If you have ATT Unlimited & More wireless plan, WatchTV is included at no cost so that is why I bought a FireTV stick.

I replaced my downstairs Joey with an Amazon 4K Firestick. It works well on my Home network. About once a month I have to reauthorize the Fire Stick using my IPhone and Dish anywhere. The Firestick controls are not as convenient as the Dish 54 remote but I only watch the downstairs TV when using my exercise bike. I kept a Joey3 in my bedroom because the convenience of having the 54 remote is worth the cost. With Google Assistant and the 54 remote I can control all my house lights besides watching the Joey3.

Is the Firestick and DishAnywhere two seperate things? Do I need both? I don't know the lingo and not a tech guy.
If you're paying $10 a month for a Joey then that must be a Super Joey which also adds two tuners to your Hopper 1 or Hopper 2. The regular price for a regular Joey is $7 per month.
You need to add the DishAnywhere App on the Firestick.

There are several differences between whats are on each unit. Being so inexpensive, that is why I have both.
For me. I have 1 Roku 3 and 2 fire TV models, one a Cube. My Apple TV 3 sets in a drawer. I hate it!
I use the Amazon products much more than the Roku. Roku only allows 1 sideload app. And they can get nuked at any time that Roku deems fit.
Fire sticks, TV's...etc are more versatile in that you can pretty much install tons of Android apps on them. Prime media kind of sucks because it's sort of limited.
I lent a friend my Roku and fire pendant. He activated his Netflix acct. on the Roku. So I still have that.
Plex runs real well on the Amazons too. People say they hate them. I think once you get over the fence of Amazon apps and discover the other things they are good for, you'll enjoy them as much as I do. Then again, my Sony Android TV does pretty much what the Amazons does too.

The FireStick is the hardware you need to purchase then you download the DishAnywhere app (software) onto the FireStick to allow the FireStick to connect to your Hopper and act as the replacement for your Joey.
Dish Anywhere is not on Roku. If you have a Hopper with Sling and home wifi you can use dish anywhere on the firestick. This would allow you to basically view live tv, DVR and a guide on your firestick like its another tv setup with Dish.
You can also download individual network apps on your Roku OR Firestick and your Dish account lets you "get them for free" so to say. Some examples are ESPN App, Nicktoons app, Disney Now, Fox Sports, Cartoon Network etc etc. You can download these network apps on both Roku and Firestick. While watching a live channel on the firestick Dish Anywhere app, can the hopper 3 display a different live channel on the primary TV?
