Going to be doing some serious rewiring. What is a fair price for rg-6 nowadays? Local hardware store has it pegged at 20cents per foot.

Cheers, K

I've been using 3ghz quad shield, copper clad steel core. From Home Depot 500'roll $35 =14.28cents per foot. Chinese made of course

Check Ebay surplus stores for RG-6 solid copper core. If you are lucky, you can get it for about 10 cents per foot on a really good deal, but you need to buy a spool of 500 to 1,000 feet to get bulk price.
I did the same with RG-11 and got a 1,000 foot spool for something like $143.00/$148.00 US a few years back. That is $0.14 - $0.15 per foot for RG-11, RG-6 should be less.

I believe its around 5 cents a foot when I get it at Dow Electronics. That's copper clad steel. I believe the solid copper core is closer to 10 cents a foot and unsure about quad sheild. I don't really see much reason to use the quad sheild since its not required.

I personally don't see much benefit to using quad shield cable. I used it for years because I got a deal on a spool of it. It was difficult to work with regarding connector installations and it really didn't grant me any benefits that I could cite. We are not normally routing our cables through a buss duct with other wires and electrical cables, so there really should not be any need for quad shield cable unless you just happen to get a heck of a deal on some. Copper clad steel center conductor cable is just fine for almost all purposes, almost all that is. But, if you can get solid Cu core, without spending too much more, that is a plus. You can get into all sorts of technical parameters regarding cable, but in the end if it is the least expensive and it functions, that is all that really matters. Don't analyze it too much beyond that.

If you don't mind your 500 ft of RG-6 in 250 foot lengths MCM has it for less than 5 cents a foot.

Coupon code AFC909 will take off 15% so you can get two spools for $24.77 shipped

Even better four spools equal to 1000 feet will work out to $41.05 shipped.

A few times a year they lower the free shipping threshold or offer a flat $5 shipping. A few months ago they had this cable on sale for $5.99 during the free shipping event so it worked out to under 3 cents a foot :)

some towns have bulk pickup a couple of times per year.
One year a cousin found a roll of rg6 somebody was tossing out,1000ft roll with about 750ft still left on it and gave it to me.
So I should have enough for the rest of my life, and you can't beat the price.

I may be old school, but solid copper quad shield has proven better for me.But only name brands.Belden or Comscope. But quad sheild will do no better if not properly grounded. After all that is the purpose of the sheild. I have alot of radio equipment, althouth satelitte would be less prone, the interference levels from local weather and FM broacasts can almost be nulled with good shield and ground.I imagine the same would hold true for sat with TI. I have alot of antenna feeds coming to one area and all use the common house ground at the entry point to the house. And I just got a new spool of 1000' Beldon quad solid copper from Dow for$86.

I think lowes has 500 foot for $38 and its made in the USA.

It was difficult to work with regarding connector installations

quad shield RG-6 - crimp-on is difficult, compression connectors just slide right on.

@Iceberg - Lowes still has them for $45 - picked up another roll of RG-6 quad shield copper-clad steel center conductor for $45 about 1-2 months ago. That cable works great for me over my near 100' runs on c-band dishes with orthogonal feedhorn and norsat 8115's.
