Is it possible to receive RFD on a smaller dish like a 1M Primestar or a 1.2M dish? I want to set up a FTA for my dad and he would like to receive RFD. The only problem is that mom does not want a BUD in her backyard!!! I was wondering if RFD signals come in strong enough to even consider a small dish before I play around and find out the hard way that it might not be possible.

Great Question Dishman Dan!

Now that is one question I get asked sometimes for people that just wants RFD-TV, size dish! I will be keeping a close eye on this thread and maybe Iceberg can get us light on the subject later on when he signs in.

He is testing his 1.2M dish WSI dish for just questions like these! Maybe he can try to hit the bird and channel and post some findings for us!

My father n law brought the subject up awhile ago when he asked me, he just went out and bought a 8 footer though to get it and got a Skyvision package mainly just for that, he owns classic Ford 2N, 8N and 9N tractors and had to get RFD for the Classic Tractor shows!

Loves Hee Haw on there also and calls me every morning to tell me about that and rubs in the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Imus"]Don Imus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:USMC_logo.svg" class="image"><img alt="USMC logo.svg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/21/USMC_logo.svg/28px-USMC_logo.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/2/21/USMC_logo.svg/28px-USMC_logo.svg.png[/ame] thing!

I am getting a 180CM C/Ku Price Focus Dish Antenna (6 foot) from Sadoun soon, I had to take my 10 foot down last week due to HOA problems, they said I could go 6 Foot and that is OK with me right now. My prime use for the 10 Foot was RFD-TV for Imus In The Morning since I am a 20 year Broadcast AM/FM radio guy!

Great question, I will be following this one!

I know that BOTH of them will enjoy it! I cannot see paying Charlie for this one channel. Everything else is on Ku so that will not be a problem. I have plenty of BUDs to choose from at my home but like I said mom is the culprit! I cannot believe she does not want a BUD in her backyard! I must of been adopted!!!...

It may be possible but anytime I see threads on C band signals on small dishes it is only going to be a sketchy signal at best. Not always reliable reception and if an adjacent satellite next door fires up a transponder on or near the same frequency, you will lose reception because of the noise the small dish can't block out. The beamwidth at c band frequencies on a 1.2 is just too wide.

Yea TRG, I forgot about that!

RFD-TV HD on Galaxy 23 C 121W, I do not have the 10 foot up anymore or I would give TP and SR! The List does not show it on there unless it is the TEST one shown! ;)

103W you can forget about with a mini-bud. I think Iceberg has stated some poor reception on this sat for his 6footer.

103W use to be good enough for ION and DW a few years ago on a 1.2M, not any more :( Might be due to all of the HITS stuff on 105w causing interference or maybe they've lowered the power on AMC1

Whats the RFD-HD tp on 121W

agreed. The 6 footer I can barely get RFD on

Thanks for the info! My parents backyard has a clean sweep of the southern sky even better than my house. I have 2 Unimesh 7.5 footers with C/Ku feedhorns to pick up soon and I might set up one of those. There are quite a few 7.5' BUDs in my area and a lot of them are Unimesh. I still do not understand why mom does not want a BUD when there is plenty of room even for a bigger BUD(s)! :)

I have trouble with some of the DCII signals on 103 with my 7.5 footer, and it gets everything else on other sats perfectly. I think this is the "wonky-skew" bird...or was that the Ku side?

Same problem here with RFD on a 6footer. Some days it will come in just above the threshold...most days it's pixelating....Ion stuff is ok though. Blind
