I would think both would be so far out of reach (it'd take a long time to get to Alaska on horseback), that they're likely just doing their own thing...trying to survive...which would be a lot easier in Hawaii than it would in AK (especially during winter).
They probably got it great in Hawaii compared to other areas with the nice weather and such. They are so remote that they probably get left alone. Imagine the hurricane season down south and the tornadoes and no radar to see where the bad storms are.
Imagine how it WAS back about 100 years ago when there was no Radar for Tornadoes or hurricanes. I know the Hurricane that hit Galveston ,Texas in September 8th of 1900 killed between 6000 - 8000 people. It was a Cat 4 and considered the deadliest Hurricane in U.S. history. A world without power would be so much worse than they portray it on this tv show.
Without irrigation pumps carrying the water those areas there would be vast wastelands .
Well, that's how they turned the San Joaquin Valley (Sacramento to Bakersfield) into a huge agricultural area - irrigation and aquaducts. No electricity means no water and so it returns to a wasteland, yet it's part of the entire west coast California Commonwealth. So the Wastelands area must be like a vast inland desert...
Somewhat surprising, it looks as though I'll be back for a 2nd season...

I meant to say I'm surprised that NBC created a decent show - one that is being renewed.
It probably reverted to one big desert like it was before water was pumped into that region of the US. Bye. Bye. Phoenix, Arizona; Reno, Nevada; Las Vegas, Nevada, etc. etc.
That's pretty much what I'm thinking too, though not quite sure why it extends up into where Idaho and part of Montana would be. They both get plenty of rain and snow, particularly snow. Though the terrain is rugged, particularly in Montana...
I meant to say I'm surprised that NBC created a decent show - one that is being renewed.
