Do people actually watch edited movies on TV?

I wouldn't say that I "watch" them. But the movies they show on TBS/TNT are movies I've seen 1000 times already, so I usually have them on in the background while I do projects around the house. If I'm painting while they're on I hardly even notice the commercials. I rarely, though, will sit and watch a movie on those channels. Unedited/Commercial-Free movies are why I have my DVD collection and Netflix.

I'm truly amazed that what seems like so many seem to even care about these worthless channels. The fact is that it's really not many at all-- that's why they are gone. Good riddance. I'd rather have the new channels we got-- even with small %'s of HD. At least they have more than 2 hours of programming repeated over and over and over again.

Talked to reps today from both DISH & DIRECT. The DISH rep I spoke with to voice displeasure over losing MONSTERS HD said they have the reps filling out request forms for the VOOM channels that ppl want. She filled out a form for me and said that she alone had filled out over 100 this week just for MONSTERS.

Then I called DIRECT. When the first rep realized I had been a long time DIRECT customer before switching to DISH, she transfered me to a super. He was aware of the VOOM situation with DISH and said he has fielded many calls from DISH subs regarding the rumor that DIRECT might pick up soom or all of VOOM. He said at this time there are no plans to pick up any of VOOm but said that could change and to keep calling back.

Wherever VOOM ends up...I am so there. Dish may not miss my $140/month but if D* acquires VOOM...adios!

Well.. I wrote Voom an email asking them to try and come to a resolution with Dish and return to the lineup, even if it meant taking a cut in the # of channels.. they almost the next second had an auto response email back in my inbox with the verbatim info they have on their website.

Boo! I hate being ignored... and I hate auto-response replies even more.

Dishnetwork has lost touch with their core competence

Again, why be EACTLY like your competition? Dish and direc are almost identical.
I thought the additional HD plus voom made them unstopable.

Direc has the advantage to dish-more HD content and much better sports packages.

To me, Dish hit a home run knockout punch before they cut out voom. Even with the 5 voom channels-They were up on top!

722( best DVR ) New HD and Voom- Direc tv was knocked down from top spot.
Hands down.

Foolish move by dish. Bad PR and loss of customers. I must have told 15 people
what dish has done.

Not smart. Word is speading. However, they can still fix this.

Dishnetwork and Mr. Ergen have lost touch with their core competence. Adding more HD to try to copy Directv's model is just plain stupid as Dishnetwork will never be able to compete at price and the Directv model. Why do most people use Dishnetwork? To me most of the people here are high def folks with good home theatre systems and most joined Dishnetwork for Voom HD as that provided unique HD content and the highest quality HD clarity to view on big screens, etc. I also see a good amount of Dishnetwork people in my city that are hispanic. They joined for the many spanish programming unique to dishnetworks.

What do these two things have in common? we all joined for content not amount of channels and not price. If you remove the quality content to replace with more quantity but low quality programming, guess what happens? you piss off your core group of clients and they cancel!

Voom HD was my favorite channels especially treasure HD which has recently added more new shows which I am glad I had the DVR to record them! Also ultra HD, and equator HD. The new channels they added are weak. Does anyone really want to pay extra to watch the weather channel on HD? or how about your five year old child is he demanding his cartoons to be on HD? NOT! Additionally the quality of these so called HD channels is very low quality, they are barely better than many SD channels. I watched a few of the world fishing channel and they are filmed with a low grade camera probably some guys consumer camera and wow it is broadcasted in HD but the original filming is so low quality it does not deserve to be called HD.

What dishnetwork should do is bring back Voom but include it in their package of HD. Then market the programming content not the amount of HD channels but rather the unique shows that only they can provide. That is how they got their core customers not buy duplicating directv.

I am going to give them two months to bring back Voom then I will cancel. In addtion I am going to make it a personal crusade to make sure nobody in my circle of friends is using Dishnetwork! Anyone whom liked the Voom channels should cancel if dishnetwork does not bring Voom back! I pay $127 a month and I called Directv and told them what I have and guess what it would only cost $99 a month! I checked and any programming package is cheaper than dishnetwork so if they do not bring back Voom I see no logical reason to stay and give a company that does not listen to its top tier clients any more of our hard earned money! Call directv and compare what you have with them and you will see you are getting ripped off, now that there is no Voom HD so the two companies are providing the same content; its just that dishnetwork is charging more!

But you are not their core customer...not even close. The move they made played exactly to the core customers...the ones so politely labeled as "Voom haters" here by folks with little tact.

A few thousand people may actually leave (not just complain) over the Voom issue...not even a blip on the radar. Dish, however, immediately picks up umpteen million monthly to put into mainstream programming that WILL attract more core customers.

Voom has been a mess for Dish. They were destined for bankruptcy...Dish just delayed the inevitable.

Folks in forums sometimes have the difficult task of stepping outside the box and realizing that forum users are NOT the mainstream (or core user). In fact, it is the complete opposite. We are not even 1%ers...not even 1/10 1%ers...

An entertainment network custom designed for audiophiles and videophiles is doomed to failure as you cannot market a nationwide service tailored for the 1%ers. They tried...it was called Voom...and it went straight to the junk pile.

All undocumented and unsubstatiated opinion. Dish and Voom are locked in a legal battle over contractual semantics and Dish decided to call them on it. You pretend to know what you are talking about and throw out stats like they exist. Ridiculous - and all to throw your little jab about "Voom haters". There are plenty of "core" customers as you call them that are none too happy with losing their favorite Voom channel. Your broad stroke opinions are not quite crafted well enough to hide how you really feel about Voom. Come on back when you have some confirmed data for your matter-of-fact statements.

Nice to know that opinions are fine as long as you don't dare speak ill of Voom.

You don't need numbers...Voom was already in bankruptcy...that should tell you something right there. Dish tried it and it did not work. If "core" customers were watching Voom...none of these threads would be here and the 1%ers would all be watching the sun rise or some dude ride a kayak out of a helicopter in glorious videophile HD.

Adding mainstream programing is what Dish needed to do and they are on the right track. Speed is the next logical choice...and I would think with the cash they just freed up, it may be right around the corner.

The ironic thing is that even here...where you would expect an overwhelmingly skewed poll...it is clear that noone really cares. A VERY outspoken minority makes a lot of noise...

Dish has 15 million customers...I seriosuly doubt a few thousand (even 50 thousand for that matter) angry Voom lovers leaving will rate one bullet on Charlie's weekly status rollup.

Let us try to keep this in perspective...it is TV.

You missed one in the poll. Leaving elsewhere whether Voom comes back or not. I am in that category. Right now, I am looking at other possibilities but would like to wait until the dust finally settles. But once is done, I am taking my $$$ elsewhere. I will become part of the churn. It will be Adios...

I'm with Sean

"A few thousand people may actually leave (not just complain) over the Voom issue...not even a blip on the radar. Dish, however, immediately picks up umpteen million monthly to put into mainstream programming that WILL attract more core customers."

What???? ok how? I paid a premium for dish only for Voom. I ignored the constant marketing by directv and comcast. so far I just compared directv and they provide more channels 50 in fact (300 total) and 10 more HD channels for $56 for the first 3 months then $91; so why would dish get "umpteen million" I'm giving you the benefit of not jumping on your brilliant grammar? I paid $127 for far less channels. Dish is not going to get more users if they continue to charge so much. I see absolutely zero logic to stay with dish when directv is cheaper and provides more channels. I have not even started to compare others like comcast yet. I do not see any logic in your "umpteen million"

Illin do you work for dishnetwork or something? why would you pay more for less that makes zero sense to me and I doubt that the core of their clients want to pay more for less? we are practically in a recession so without more value like Voom HD I see no logic to get me to pay anyone more money especially dish the way they have treated me!

Dish has approximately 2.5 million HD customers. They WERE paying a bit over $4 (monthly) per HD subscriber for Voom. Now they are not... That extra $120 million (annual)...or umpteen (which means many Mr. Grammar) million allows tremendous flexibility and allows Dish to compete where it matters. As unimportant as it may seem to you, Dish needs to get the HD channel count up. That is ALL that matters in attracting new mainstream customers.

Not to burst your bubble but Dish is not going to notice your missing subscriber fee. They will spend about 3-5 minutes of CSR retention time with you as it makes fiscal sense, then they will cut you loose to roam the other side of the fence.

If you are not in a contract, then jump to Direct TV. I agree, for what you want, it is a much better deal. I for one had them and went to Dish for the DVR alone. Now that they added the HD only option, Dish is a bargain.

Honestly Voom was great, but if Dish lights up a load of HD that has Motorsports, Action Movies and soft porn, then i will soon forget what went before :)

I will miss UFO, Thunderbirds and watching HDNews but in the end i want all my regular channels from FX and Speed to Military and Comedy to be up there too and i suspect that will sell a lot more boxes and subscriptions then Voom could have done.

They have to turn a profit and sadly what is largely high quality but niche programming will loose to the pulp syndicated sitcoms and fictions. I have yet to find anyone at work who even knows what Voom is/was unfortunately.

It almost reminds me of situations like when Fox cancelled the show Firefly, there were "riots" all over the internet and people swore they would boycott Fox, they wrote emails and letters etc.... but still we ended up with crap that the masses preferred in its place.

It would be nice if they came back, maybe slimmed down, or popped up elsewhere, good luck to them.

Oh well, as he said, its only TV.

He didn't watch them before so he doesn't see any problem with them being gone. In fact, he probably feels that he is paying for fewer channels he never watches and therefore is getting better results for his money.

Voom Haters don't don't even realize how they sound when they nonchalantly dismiss others as niche, insignificant blips who are nothing and can be cast aside without so much as a notice tossed their way. He has what he wants that's all that matters. Now wants everyone who doesn't line up with his thinking and preferences to shut up and go away so that his little world will fit his opinions and then complains about everyone elses opinions. He makes great declarations without substantiation and then when called on it claims it was just an opinion and what is your problem.

Of course, those are just my opinions but since he insists that all opinions be respected...

Same here, I am not 160 but with all the UFC events I get it comes close to that. Who knows maybe we will get a couple back with the uplinks, probably not but I guess one can hope.

It just seems to me, that theres is actually ''less'' HD on dish now then ever before.

What dish is trying to do is thorw everything but the kitchen sink at us and say its HD.

The content that is on now can not even be called a substitution.

Again, I wonder if dish cares about this? HD leader ? What a joke!

Me too. I'm on my way out. Holding out just long enough to see what actually happens. Will definitely make a move by June 24, which ends a promotional $18/month off your bill at DirecTV. Money is no issue to me so I don't care what it takes. I'm not going to continue to support Dish after they pulled this move. I know my leaving won't hurt them but it will make me feel like I did the right thing and I can have a clear conscience.

I'm missing Monsters HD more and more everyday. They just posted their June schedule and it looks fantastic - including a Frank N Fest!!! One Frankenstein flick after another marathon including Son of Frankenstein! And I'm going to miss it!

It really sucks to be part of a small crowd that actually finds enjoyment out of really unique and dedicated programming like VOOM. We always seem to get the short end of the stick. I wish I were more like Joe Six Pack so that I can enjoy the mainstream crap like endless reruns of tired crime drama's and sitcoms and pseudo sports like fishing and NASCAR. :sleeo

I agree, It just seems like whenever something ''really'' good comes along that has depth and creativity it gets killed. What happened to variety?

I was so excited that dish had voom plus some cool additions last week that I was going to close my direc tv acct. Dish was back on top!

I will be leaving dish ( cant support) a company that has screwed me.
I will wait a little longer for dust to settle.
I had invested on upgrades to 722 two of them a week before the voom massacre. I was so excited to have voom abd all the other edditions-

Then all the air was taken out of me in one shot!
