(Get coffee.) We had Dish for many years--ran a single DVR receiver into a coax system in our house---watch/record/pause (same program) on any of our TVs, using RF remotes and a central booster antenna. Worked GREAT for our purpose.
Why switch?? Brother got a broadcasting job for Mtn Sports, only available on DirecTv. But we were assured that a setup similar to our Dish one with their RF remotes would cover up to 200 ft, which would work fine for us.
Well, 3/4 into the install, it was clear that their remotes didn't cut it--reason given: the receiver's internal remote antenna not being as powerful as in their "old kind" (sorry to get so technical there). At that point, kind of no going back, so their fix was Whole-house DVR as a compensation. Many, many crashes and glitches later, they had to come and swap out the HR23-700 HD/DVR receiver and the DTV guy replaced it with an HR24NC-200. He said the latter is made for whole house and is newer. On a hunch---I tested the RF remotes and ---Lo and behold---with this new receiver, they suddenly work from anywhere in the house.
QUESTION: Is it possible to remove the whole-home add-on receivers and connect our main DirecTv HD-DVR receiver into our coax (or upgraded coax) and out to our other TVs like we used to with DISH? Thanks, anybody.
