I am returning to DIRECTV after one year with Comcast (Xfinity). Comcast has the worst TV product that I have ever experienced. But, on to my DTV install question. I previously had the SlimLine Dish w/ 3 LNB's and a dual coax run for HD DVR HR20-?. I no longer have the Slim Line dish, but the mount is still installed. DirecTv is installing the Genie w/ 2 mini clients. What type of dish is DTV installing these days? Will the current dish fit the oversize mount? How many coax runs will the Genie need? Thank you for any information. I am really looking forward to getting back with DTV.

If you had an HR20 previously, the dish used a 2" mast, which is what they are still using. The Genie requires a swm setup, so you will only have one cable coming from the dish, unless there are four already installed. Then they could install a swm8 switch. I seriously doubt they will do that. They will almost definitely use one cable from the dish to a power inserter, then to the Genie. It's a very clean install. Make sure you let us know how it went.

Can I self install - if I choose to add more GENIE clients later, or should I upgrade the order to the max GENIE clients?

I dont believe dtv currently allows self installing the mini genies. Might as well get them now, youll pay less in install fees, as they would change you to install them on a seperate trip, 3 free with origional install.

The rule of thumb that I learned on this forum is, "get all you will need with the initial install". It just makes it easier and cheaper on you.

I am back with DirecTv. Installation went smooth. The installer took no time at all to setup the HR34 (Genie) + 3 Mini's. Glad to be back with DirecTv. So long Comcast!

Glad to hear it went smooth...!!!

I'm going to be doing the same thing. Been in the Comcast wilderness for almost 3.5 years. I can almsot taste that sweet, sweet, D* goodness now. :D

wow, it's been a while since I posted here. Need to change my sig....

DirecTv is awesome. The HR34 is much faster than my old HR20. Comcast is light years behind DirecTv. I still find this hard to believe since Comcast owns the Internet pipe. It is good to be back with DirecTv.
