Retailer Chat Recap 12/12/13

Just to be clear Direct Tv DOES charge a $10 HD fee. There have been ways to avoid it but it is not a given you will not pay it as it has been with DISH. I hope this change is because DISH has to and not because they can. Disney winning the suit about HD charges may have alot to do with it. I am betting you will see a shift when it comes to these new subscribers after their two year period. The incentive will be no HD charge to stay, rather than some of the other incentives now given.

If I order 2 Hoppers before the new rates, will I be grandfathered in? First it was $7 for the second hopper, then $12 with grandfathering. Now $17, and no second TV out, unless I pay for a Joey.
There ARE NO NEW RATES (yet)

Relax until they are announced.

I know there are a ton of people with SD only receivers, but doing like cable TV has been doing, phasing out analog channels on their lifeline tiers, is something Dish should do.

Apples & oranges; any/all legacy cable systems that have NO analog channels, STILL offer SD feeds of HD channels, including local channels. (eg: when Comcast did it's analog reclaimation prog, they did & STILL have SD-only DTA's, that will NOT pick up HD feeds)

So does this mean my free HD for life is going away???.................... Just kidding. I actually have reading comprehension. :hula:

Great info as usual!. Thanks!

Remember free DVR for life? Wonder what kind of spin Dish will do for Free HD For Life? Life can be meant to be 7 years from what I have heard when asking about free lifetime warranty. Perhaps no free 4K but free 720p.

If they don't offer SD then they can't charge a premium for HD. That is why they still have SD. If they will allow Dish to downconvert the HD to SD then perhaps that could save some satellite space. Eastern Arc don't offer SD versions of channels that have an HD feed. Perhaps this is a reason why they keep Western and Eastern Arcs, so that they can still state that they offer SD feeds of those channels at one slot.
