I have a strange problem. Suddenly when I turn on my tv each day there is a picture/program for about 15 seconds then it goes black. Sometimes I get 0-0 Channel not available.
I use the menu, perform a satellite setup, go through all the steps, it downloads the program guide and finally I have normal Directv programming. This is getting annoying. I haven't called Directv because that is frustrating.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experienced this?
Thanks
You're not alone - I'm going through the exact same thing with my H20, it started about 2 months ago, but only occasionally.
But lately it's gotten worse, it's happening almost every morning now. I turn it on and get nothing but a blank screen - all the channels become "0-0" and the Channel Guide is filled with the same, repeating entry; "Regular Schedule". I called DTV (several times over the course of a week) and went through all the usual troubleshooting steps, including a forced firmware download, nothing worked. They concluded the receiver was going bad. Funny thing is, a simple reset clears up the problem, at least for the remainder of that day. Once reset, I can turn the system on & off several times a day with no issues, but it returns each morning. Whatever is causing this, is happening during the night. I STILL don't know if it's a bad receiver, or something on their end.
The installed firmware version shown is: 0x4062 - Wed 04/02 at 3:11a ..which is right around the time the problem started.
A DTV "tech" (and I use that term loosely) came out. He pulled into my driveway and never even shut the van off - he marched over to my deck where the dish is located and as he was peeping through his little hand-held angle finder, announced; "You have to cut down all the trees in your backyard!"
He couldn't explain why he was looking into the sky at least 45 degrees from the dish azimuth. ..or if my trees were a problem, why I never saw a "Searching for Satellite" message. ..or why none of my three other receivers in the house had any issues. ..or why a simple reset cleared up the problem. On top of that, he didn't even have a receiver with him, which was the whole point of the trip. What a stooge. Once he realized he wasn't going to BS me - he just turned tail, jumped into his truck and drove off. Probably late for a crack buy. ..gotta love those Ironwood scamps.
DTV ended up sending me a replacement (FedEx) to install myself, but it's the newer H21. I'm going to set that up this morning and give it a go. But I think I'll hang onto the H20 for a couple of days before returning it, just in case. I don't want to fix one problem, and inherit three new ones... Besides, yours is the first post I've seen talking about the same problem as I have. I thought I was alone, so maybe my receiver isn't really broke after all...
