Doing some driving today for easter to see family and we stopped for a short 30 minute break at a restaurant/truckstop/C-store place. Anyways, while everyone was stretching their legs, I saw a pawn shop across the road and I ventured over as I was surprised it was open.
I wandered arouind and saw a viewsat ultra box on the shelf . Box looked almost new and I opened it up (kind of to the dismay of the pawn shop owner, but I told him I was curious if it really was a viewsat in the box). Anyways, opened it up and sure enough, everyone on the package contents listing was in the box, PLUS a 512meg USB key. Figured why not ask what he was asking for it. To my surprise he told me $25 out the door if I paid cash (Gotta love how these places operate). I told him it wasn't worth more than $20 to me and that's what I'd offer on the condition that I get to at least power it up in the store to ensure it actually turned on. He didn't even think twice and took the deal and let me power it up and even let me hook it to the tv to see if the outputs worked. Btw, for those that have not seen an ultra, the remote is a MONSTER. It's bigger than my AVR remotes.
Anyways, everything was working as I would expect, immediately noticed (as I am sure many of you suspected) third part firmware on it. No biggie, just get the factory stuff when I get a chance.
I have a whole new motorized setup coming from sadoun thanks to the $1 auctions and some other goodies so now I'm gonna have a nice motorized setup and a motorized test setup to play with, now I even have a receiver to use for it. I'm kind of intrigued on recent reports that the newer viewsats and motors are playing well together plus I like the idea of having a nice testing setup so I don't mess with my nicely functioning setup I have now.
Btw, feel free to give me some suggestions in my other thread on a PVR receiver with blind scan that I want to try http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=94065
