I know someone that is getting Directv off of someone else account and they are charging a small fee to the person that is piggybacking off their account... is this legal for them to do. I didn't think it was.. What can be done about it and can they get a fine for doing it... I also beleive that the person that is doing it works for a directv installation company.

I wonder if DirecTV would give you a reward for turning them in. I wonder if it would be worth it.

Everybody is doing it, receivers are passed on from subscribers to friends and relatives. That's why providers require receivers to be connected to phone line.

The person working for the install company would be fired. The service would be terminated. DirecTV could sue them civally (not likely), but there would not be a fine associated with this.

Strange that you decided to register a new account to ask this. You must really have an ax to grinde with somebody. Besides...you know it's not acceptable to share an account. Why didn't you just call DirecTV?

I have been looking for a way to report this anonymously via the internet, but if I have to call DTV I would..

I dont beleive that they have it hooked up to a telephone line..

And yes... I have to pay full price.. I beleive that they should too...

But being a crook is being a crook..

Hey, do you know anyone that would do that for me.. I'm looking!!!

Create a hotmail account, send them a message, never log in to the hotmail account again. Give them the details that you know, don't exaggerate. Addresses and phone numbers will probably help them most.

To do it right, do all of this at a cyber cafe - no trace on your IP address that way.

Why do you really care?

Wouldn't you say something if you just bought your Hemi 6.1 for full price and the next guy got it for less than half of what you just paid for the same car!!!

I would!!

i have friends that think it's ok to steal satellite service. frankly it's none of my business. i'm just concerned on making sure i'm doing everything as legal as possible.

No, I wouldn't at all care.
I have much better things to worry about then some guy with D* service thats mirroring service to someone at his own expence. Sounds to me your just pissed he wouldn't do it for you.
Maybe if he's also supplying Drugs to his friends ,Then it might be a cause for concern.

Sure it is; stealing causes higher prices that us legit guys pay for in the end. Be it DBS, groceries or clothes. Turning a blind eye to ANY crime is always wrong and bad news; it also presents a slippery slope.

If D* was that worried about it they would most likly have taken care of it with some type of a security measure by now. I don't think this issue is nearly the problem its made out to be. It was a Problem with E*, I don't see it being one with D*.

I agree with this. Dont get me wrong, I dont agree with what they are doing, and if were something serious I would alert the proper authorities, but in this case, its really none of my business. I am legal, thats all that matters to me. If D* REALLY wanted to catch these people and it was a serious problem they would pursue it, like E* has done in the past.

Given the nature of this topic, and that it has been answered clearly, I'm going to close this thread.

I also sent a note to DirecTV to ask if there is a certain method for confidentally reporting account stacking / signal theft, and will post it to this thread when they reply.

This is the number to the signal integrity department, for reporting signal theft or account stacking:

(800) 830-6090
