Can anyone give a legitimate reason why Kobe earned this honor over LeBron? LeBron has him beat in every statistical category! This is starting to become a lifetime achievement award instead of actually awarding this to the Most Valuable Player.

Player PPG FG% Reb Ast StlPG Blk
Kobe 28.3 45.9 6.3 5.4 1.8 .5
Paul 21.1 48.8 4.0 11.6 2.7 .1
Lebron 30 48.4 7.9 7.2 1.8 1.1

Kobe....for as much as I hate him....IS the better player. There is no two ways about it. He has been for the last 4 or 5 seasons. Followed by Lebron and a bunch tied for 3rd. NOW, if you asked which team would make the playoffs WITHOUT their superstar player....I would say the Lakers hands down....because the Cavs WITHOUT Lebron would be no better than the Miami Heat.

Wouldn't that make LeBron the "Most Valuable" player? After all, like you say, take him off the Cav's and they'd be lousy!

YES...it would....BUT you know it has SELDOM gone to THAT guy....case in point Karl Malone over Michael Jordan and the 1st MVP of Nash over Shaq.

He's good enough, smart enough and dawg on it, people like him. :D

Well deserved for Kobe. He's been robbed of it the past 2 years.

Like I said earlier, this has become a lifetime achievement award. The NBA is making up for multiple past great seasons and giving it to the veteran, instead of the player with the better numbers and the one who is actually more valuable to his respective team.

BTW, I am in no way discounting Kobe's achievements in his career. He is a great player and IMO, should've received this achievement for the first time before this year. It's just hard to argue with this year's numbers and shear value.

LeBron has better numbers in every statistical category. Both LeBron and Chris Paul are more valuable to their respective teams. Unfortunately, they are both only 23. The NBA chose to give it to the 30 year old.

This reminds me of when the Academy gave Scorsese the Best Director Oscar for his Departed film, when in fact he should've received it a long time ago for Raging Bull or countless other great works.

Sorry, but I think Chris Paul deserves this award the most. If only for the great last name.:D Seriously, though, where would NO be without this guy. He has a bigger cast of nobodies than even Cleveland has. This kid made everyone on that team better. As for LeBron, weren't they just over .500? Kobe? Well just another season of Kobe, definitely a great player, but I wonder where they would be without the Gasol trade. Just my opinion.

Lebrons numbers could be higher because Kobe has a bigger stable of "good" players around him to score and get rebounds. Lebron is the top of his team and has to take those extra shots and get those extra boards.. So stats really cant determine who is the "mvp" Because of so many other factors..

It must REALLY suck to be an Atlanta sports fan today...

Omaha keeps College World Series through at least 2030
