Repoint a Dish 500 to 61.5/72.7?

i am using the original dish 1000 with two dpp singles and picking up 61.5/72.7 just fine strenght of 60 on the 61.5 and strength of 40 on the 72.7. aldo have the dish 1000+ pulling in the 110/199 with all going to a dpp 44 switch.los is too low foe129 with an elevation of 20. i did try a dish 500 tohit 61.5/72.7 but could not pick up so that is why i went with the original dish 1000 with the wider reflector.

I am currently using dish500 with DPP pointed at 61.5 and 72. Skew adjusted to eastern arc setting. All works fine :) Used sat calculator on this site to determine skew and angles. 72 strength in 40s and 50s. 61.5 strength varies from 40s to 60s with spotbeam locals (7 and 15) in mid to high 80s.
I wanted to try 1000.2 to see if I could push these readings even higher. My readings from the dish500 are actually higher than readings from a friends setup with a 222 connected to a 1000.4 :up No interest in linking to 77, since programming is other locals, music, international, etc.

I started this thread in order to try to use the setup that I aready had (dish 500 for 110/119 and another dish 500 for the 61.5 wing) to try to get the new channels. I was able to repoint my 110/119 dish 500 to 61.5/72.7. I used the skew setting half-way between the two.

It worked OK but the signal strengths were about 10 points lower than with a real eastern arc dish 1000.4. I know this because I now have a 1000.4 hooked up. The installer left my original 61.5/110/119 setup to use with my old 501 receiver, so now I have 3 dishes. The eastern arc and my original dishes are now two entirely separate systems as Iceberg suggested earlier in this thread.

Now that dish network has officially said not to mix eastern and western arc systems, this was probably the best solution for me. As I said, repointing my dish 500 to 61.5/72.7 did work, but the signal strength was about 10 points lower across the board.

Dish 500 with modified yolk (opened up about 1/4 in. works remarkably well - see attached picture. Tr. 2 on 61.5 (a weak tr.) is about 48 and tr1 on 72 is 58. :D

As a previous poster suggested - use the skew, elevation and azimuth settings from Dishpointer.com (the ones for AMC-4 at 67 west are very close).
Do NOT use settings from the 1000.4 manual or from satcalculator.net - which gave me the wrong skew settings if you use the 2 satellite option. It gave me 72 when the actual skew was closer to 63. Be sure to re-drill the plastic of the yolk an center the two lnbs. The Dish500H (hack) works great. :up

Dish peaked on 61.5 TP 20 signal Q on VIP 222 57%, split on both 45%
Dish peaked on 61.5 TP 32 signal Q on VIP 222 53%, split on both 41%
Dish peaked on 72.7 TP 19 signal Q on VIP 222 53%, split on both 46%
Dish peaked on 72.7 TP 32 signal Q on VIP 222 52%, split on both 49%
Using the same transponders as Delta_Charlie for comparison, my Dish500Hack with the spilt yolk gives these readings:

61.5 TP 20 signal Q on VIP 221k 56%
61.5 TP 32 signal Q on VIP 221k 55%
72.7 TP 19 signal Q on VIP 221k 62%
72.7 TP 32 signal Q on VIP 221k 64%

I have the feeling that this will not work because I have not seen this solution posted here, but I just HAD to ask! :)

I am in the 61.5/110/119 group so I can't get the new channels. I have the usual setup with a dish 500 for 110/119 and a separate wing dish for 61.5. In thinking about my dish set up, I couldn't help wondering if there was any way to use the current setup for eastern arc.

For example, is it possible to use the dish 500 to point at 61.5/72.7 and then use the wing dish for 77? Or, is it possible to use the dish 500 to point at 72.7/77 and then leave the wing dish at 61.5.

I know that the Dish 500 is meant for 110/119 which are 9 degrees apart, but by setting a different skew, will it work for 61.5/72.7 (11.2 degrees apart), or 72.7/77 (only 4.3 degrees apart)?

Is an eastern arc dish the only solution for me in eastern connecticut?
THIS POST IS OLD BUT THIS IS EASY!! ON THE OLD 2 DISH INSTALLS LEAVE THE 61.5 AS IT IS USE THE DPP SET IT AT 90 DEG PROPER ELEV FOR SAT 72 AND POOF YOU HAVE ALL THE HD PROGRAMMING FOR EAST COAST NEW ENGLAND I AM DOING IT AND WORKS GREAT!!! ME NH VT ETC:)

I've been doing this for over a year now without any issues. But I really don't need 61.5 now that they've moved more or less all the HD to 72.7
