I have a 1TB external drive mated to an HR21. If I replace the receiver (having an issue) will all my programming still be on the external?

In a word NO., um... Yes but....

Basically the info IS there, but when you hook it up to the new rec. it will reformat in order to allow the new one to work with it.

I would recommend watching what you want/need to see or moving them to a DVD if you can, BEFORE making the change.

Wow, bad news. I have 40% of the drive filled. Some with stuff I might now be able to replace.

I don't understand when Dish and even the Cable DVR's allow archiving that Direct doesn't allow this. I had to replace my Dish 622 a month ago and I went through 4 receivers, never lost a show on my archived drive.
