Replacement LNBf for primestar dishes

Looking to replace the old can style lnb with a newer lnbf with just one coax connection for H and V polarity. Believe they have a 20mm neck on them but dont have enough inputs to use the original ones with the dish. Seen a post where some 40mm lnbs have a 20mm neck under them but want to confirm before I buy one to cut apart.
 
most LNB's if you cut right behind the eye will have a 25mm neck that fits just fine on them

What LNB do you have? Here is how I did it with some Sadoun duals

Impakt Products has original LNBs for the dishes.
Just be careful which model you get.
They have single output, voltage controlled.
They have two output, where one is V and the other is H only.
And they may have more modern two output where either output can select either polarity.

On the elliptical dishes, you should retain the original feedhorn, since it matches the shape of the dish.
If your dish is round, aftermarket LNBFs will work (but probably not as well as stock primestar feed + LNB)

As another option, the FSS bandstacked Standard LNBs off DishNet SuperDishes will mate up to original feedhorns.
If you ask around, you can often get them for just a few dollars over the cost of shipping.
But, that's a whole 'nother discussion. ;)

Maybe I am looking in the wrong spot but it seems that Impakt no longer has a bunch of that CM/P* stuff (LNBFs and dishes) that they had on there as recently as last week.

I still see some parts (arms and brackets) but can't find the other stuff. Am I just overlooking it on that site?

Here are the LNBs I remember seeing.

Be sure to phone them and confirm whether a given LNB comes with the feedhorn, should you need one.
That was a matter of some discussion with a member, earlier this year.

I have the stock single polarity dual output can style lnbf's on them currently. They all have the holders and feedhorns on them, just would rather have single output instead of dual outputs. Seen some lnbf's online with a 40mm neck for around $11 or so and would rather use those since they are more cost friendly. Think I'll order one and do come cutting on it.

Since the stock feedhorns are for oval dishes, I assume the round feedhorn lnbf's would not capture the signal properly?
 
You may replace the stock feedhorn with an off the shelf LNBF if you do not mind the reduced performance. The shape of the original feedhorn and scalar design are optimized to see the reflector size and shape. An off-the-shelf LNBF is generic and is not optimized to see the reflector size and shape.

As Anole suggested, you will be much better off with the matched feedhorn/scalar and replace only the LNB portion.
 
May just go that route, have to look and see if the feedhorn covers are cracked or has holes in them.

Put a 2x4, 3x4, 4x8, or 5x8 multiswitch after this old LNB, and you should be fine.
I prefer powered, but the little switches work fine without power.

And if you do replace 'em, I wouldn't mind stockpiling a couple.

You'll get a little less signal, a little lower Quality, and may have trouble with high-FEC or lower powered S2 signals.
That may or may not be a problem, depending on your satellite, transponder, dish, location, LNBF, etc...
But basically, it's no worse than using a smaller diameter dish.
 
The issue I have with multiswitches are that in my current setup I have a 4:1 diseqc switch, but once they arrive I will install a 22k switch and another 4:1 on the other side of the switch to give me 8 lnb's. Throwing a multiswitch in will give me less lnb's to work with, correct? My understanding are that diseqc and a multoswitch are two different switches. If I am mistaken then a diagram or something similiar would help me out

How many receivers are you trying to support?
If just one, then maybe the KISS principle with standard single output LNBs with voltage control for V&H is the most simple.
I try to look to the future where expansion is needed, but sometimes that causes unnecessary complications. :)
 
That Eagle Aspen 270 should be fine.
It has two outputs.
Are you trying to operate two receivers, or just the one?
Will you want more receivers or LNBs in the future?

Two Examples Using Multiswitches:
===========================

Using a 2x4 switch on any two-output LNB -
- any of the four outputs could go to your 4x1 diseqc switch
- you -can- use two 4x1 diseqc with a 22khz eCoda switch, to get 8 LNBs
- wiring example from the Switch FAQ
- you could have 8 LNBs and 4 receivers

Using 4x8 Multiswitch:
- the 4-input multiswitch already selects two LNBs with 22khz
- you would use only a single 4x1 diseqc and still get 8 LNBs
- expansion would be limited to 8 LNBs and 8 receivers with an 8-output switch (or 4 with a 4x4)
