Remove account

Perhaps he would like to change his “name” so Internet searches on it don’t pull up anything here (& presumably elsewhere he used the same name).
All he has to do is delete his two posts, then no one but mods can see them.

Time limit to delete posts. And perhaps these are not truly deleted, but just made unviewable.

Think of email. Under certain circumstances, a company must maintain them for a certain number of years, or perhaps forever.

SatelliteGuys is a time capsule from the past 21 years of satellite, no posts are removed, nor are accounts deleted. This is in our user agreement which every member accepts when they sign up and to which they agreed to in order to be able to post.

We have always wanted this to be a place where anyone could research anything about the industry and see things exactly as they happened.

If the person does not want to be a member no more they can just no longer login or scramble their password so they cant login anymore.

I am proud we are a living history book.
And that's the way it is:

There are a LOT of people that would like to have control of their data. There should be laws limiting how long a website can keep data. It doesn't make sense to keep data forever.
Be that as it may, I am sure there are things people agree to when they sign up here, and most any other site on the internet.

Most don’t read those things, hell, I don’t either.

In this case, you can do that to a significant extent by not offering up data in your profile. What you post effectively becomes public record but you don't have to let on much about who you are outside of your birthday and a city (neither of which are necessarily available to anyone outside the moderators). Even with that information and a handle, I'm betting it wouldn't be easy to bring it all together and pin down who you are.
