t has been widely assumed Dish will be a no-go because it has tried to hold the line on programming costs and never has carried the Yankees' 4-year-old YES Network.

An industry source insisted, though, that Dish is not necessarily a lost cause. Talks are ongoing and both sides are interested in trying to strike a deal.

Then they better get a deal and soon. Otherwise, I see lots of Met fans scheduling their Cablevsion, Time Warner, Comcast or DirecTV installs in the next week or so if Dish does not add SNY.

Anybody who is a true sports fan in New York already has directv..NOT EVERYBODY IS A SPORTS FAN

if you want to compete nationally against Cable or DirecTv then you'd better get with the program otherwise do not say you are going to be in the game.

Why would Dish bother adding the SNY if they won't add the YES? Adding just one is a waste of money, any NY baseball fan would choose another provider.

As a new yorker from brooklyn, i never heard of a "NY baseball fan." You're a yankees fan or a mets fan. Anything else is just bandwagon fans. :)

I, for one, would LOVE SNY and would never watch YES.

So you never heard of a baseball fan either? I love baseball it does not matter who plays. I just love baseball game. Some saturdays I go out very early and watch the local games in the park and neither are Yankees or Mets yet I appreciate a good game. I agree with George if you are going to add SNY then add YES as well. And for those that think that Dish is doing us a favor by looking for our interest, think again that every year for the past 3-4 years we all got the percent increase in our satellite bill. Just cut to the chase and put the channel on and we'll pay whatever we have to pay because in the end (at the end of the year), we all be getting the increase letter.

What makes Direct TV the true place for a sportsfan? I am a NY sport fan and until now (SNY problem) I had no problem with Dish. I do not need the NFL package since the Giants are on FOX. I saw mets in the last what....7 years in MSG and Foxsports. Knicks ...MSG. I am not a Yankee fan so I do not care about YES.
I am recently enjoying Worldsports (voom) spanish soccer games in HD.
Sadly if Dish does not get SNY in a month I will be moving to Direct TV or Time warner (howard Stern on demand).

Most people in NY are either a Met or Yankee fan. Most people do not root for both teams. So adding SNY would preserve Dish's share of the Met fans in NY. I am sure most of the Yankee fans have moved on already. The Met fans will follow if Dish does not add SNY soon. I am a Met fan, and I have SNY and YES in HD from Cablevision. I never watch YES, because I hate the Yankees and never watch them. What I am trying to say is adding just SNY and not YES would help in NY. Of course it would be better for them to carry both, but each has their own audience so adding one of the two would help.

And Juan, no one said EVERYONE is a baseball fan in NY. Of course, Dish will keep the non-baseball fan customers. However, with lots of baseball fans they will lose lots of customers, too.

By your "baseball fan" argument if they don't have EVERY channel showing games for every team they should have none. As a Mets fan with no interest in the yankees other than to hope they lose, I'd rather have SNY than nothing. Sure, it would be better all around to have both, but my point is there is clearly a market for just one, especially because NY always has been a very polarized market. You either like the Mets or the Yankees. You either root for the Giants or the Jets. You either prefer the Nets or the Knicks. Rangers or Islanders. Etc. Sure there are some people who might be interested in both, but, as a rule, if you can watch your team's games you aren't going to cancel the service because you cannot also watch the cross-town rivals.

(for that matter, I subscribe to mlb.tv so i can watch any game i might find interesting, but, if I didn't, i would definitely dump dish to switch to cable or directv if it meant i could get the mets - and I bet a lot of people feel the same way).

That is not what I ma saying. What I am saying is that if you leave within a specific region like NY, I will care about getting all the RSN in my area because at any given time, I would like the opportunity or choice to have the other game available if I wish or choose to watch it. Which comes back to the point, if SNY is available, Yes should be made available as well. Either Dish is in the business to compete or they are not. Customers in any particular area who are not satisfied with what Dish provides will quit and go somewhere else. That is the nature of how customers do business.
