Just had my 2nd VIP sent to me since other refurbs went out. Did not pay a Penny and made it clear that they better not charge me or I would leave for Direct TV.
How do you know they are refurbs? I know how to tell, but most customers will never know. There are very few brand new receivers going out at this time.
Usually the receivers are all scratched up and have dried grease on the remote keys....
I have yet to install a refurb that does not look brand new, including the remotes.Usually the receivers are all scratched up and have dried grease on the remote keys....
Did you read my full post or just wanted to argue???? The two refurbs were bad. My original 625 had the software issue. You admitted that their was nothing wrong w/ the refurb units just a s/w glitch. So why bad mouth the the units that weren't even bad?

The first refurbished unit I received was stuck in dual mode preventing pip. The second one had some strange front panel LED's that were the wrong colors and sizes. It appeared as though someone had gone down to Radio Shack and replaced the original LED's for some reason. This was my experience with refurbished equipment from Dish. Back then the 625's had recently replaced my two 510's that were rock steady receivers until Dish started messing with the software on them. Both my current two 722k's and one 211k are new and function well. Down the road in a few years I realize that even they will need replacing and I will probably receive refurbished equipment. Nature of the beast with any electronics I guess. I wish that Dish could repair receivers for customers and send them back or at least have that option. Heck I had a laptop computer that was sent back for warranty repair and had the repair tech call me at home while he had it on his work bench. I was given the option to have that one repaired and sent back to me or get a replacement. Refurbished equipment is and always will be like potluck dinner. You don't know what you will be getting. I am not bashing Dish at all. I like the service....Well with the exception of the recent price increases. But that is a whole different story. The first refurb was stuck on dual mode and the other one had some really strange LED's on the front panel. I am not impressed at all with refurbished equipment from Dish. Just my 2 pennies.
The 722k has not been out all that long. I wonder what a refurbed 625 would look like. When I got installed, I had two new 722K's one of the new ones kept messing up after about the first month. Then they sent me a refurb 722k and it has actually been much better than the new one was so far. I could not really even tell it was a refurb it was clean free of scratches, etc..
Es refurbs arent the best.
Heres why.
They spool some bad software, and end up replacing lots of boxes which come to refurb and no trouble found. meanwhile a percentage have legit intermittent troubles. if they arent seen during refurb they go back out to fail again.
the really bad boxes are lost in the noise of all the software failure boxes.
E should have a rule if any box comes back 3 times it goes to the crusher
How do you know they don't? I've never heard of anyone seeing the same box more than twice.
