What format is the recorded info stored as, and is there any software available that can convert it to divx?

Also, I have found tons of infor here about how to connect the 722 to ethernet this and that, but I have not seen anything about why someone would want to do that.

What functions are available that would benefit from this?

Dish dvr has their own encoding to make so you cannot convert it. Eithernet connection will give you DishOnLine, it does show if you do not have ethernet hooked to it, but you would not be able to access it.

Hopefully someone comes along with a way to rip from our Dish DVR's to our HD over the ethernet connection. That is one of the things I miss about my DirecTivo!!!
