I am a newby here but spent many quality hours on ftaforall when they were up. I will be moving to the Philippines and am wondering what satelites I can scan. I have a Sonic View HD-8000 that I have had for years. Any help would be appreciated.Thankyou.

No idea offhand what footprints cover what. But this has the satellites 'over there ' listed. http://www.lyngsat.com/asia.html
Then there's satbeams.com for more detailed footprint info.
ftaforall - hack site. we don't condone that here. Just legal FTA.
Don't know, but don't think the 8psk module in that model is S2 capable, just hack.
So a new receiver is a must.

Welcome to the site. Like FaT already mentioned we don't condone hacking or hack talk here. What you were using to hack with is wrong equipment. You will need a new receiver and perhaps jump on one of the Asian boards to find all your answers. As I too have no idea really what is in the clear over there. A lot more than here though the way I understand it.

Most FTA in the Philippines is on C-band. I remember briefly looking into that for another guest last year. So that means you'll probably want a large dish set up once you get there. I say "probably" because some of the C-band signals are much stronger, so with a conical scalar, you might actually get quite a few channels on a 1 or 1.2 meter dish. Do yourself a favor and take a nice quality C-band (and maybe Ku-band) LNBF and a modern top-of-the-line satellite receiver in your luggage with you (microHD, NanoHD, etc.). Best wishes!
