hi guys
I had a freesat v7 receiver. I plugged in a cheap hdmi to av converter into it and I guess it had a short because receiver kept restarting and eventually it completely died with no signs of life.

then I bought gtmedia receiver and plugged it into my tv. it wasn't intuitive and the instructions sucked but eventually I got it to work. it is connected to my tv via hdmi. it works fine until I turn off my tv. when I turn off my tv and turn it back on, the channel that I was last watching continues to play which is great, that's exactly what I want. however, now there is no sound. I have to turn off the receiver and turned it back on, and now there is sound. but then if I turn off my tv and come back later, again, no sound and the only solution I have found is to turn off the receiver and turn it back on which is getting on my nerves.

is this a defective unit or am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried a different HDMI cable ?

Good morning unclejohn! Sounds like it may be an HDMI communication issue. As freddylq said, try another cable or maybe check settings.

In the past I have had similar issues with the asian import receivers. One did as you said, spontaneously rebooting itself. I have a thread here where I modded it, adding a fan to keep it from overheating. It worked OK after that but one should not need to go to those lengths for new receiver.

Another receiver lost sound on channels as yours does, sometimes tuning to a channel on another sat and then back brought the sound back. Other times a full power down and restart was required. Others have worked OK but would not control a motor properly. :(

I no longer purchase the 'cheapies' and am happy with my decision. We are currently using an Edision Mio 4K Plus and it works VERY well. That model is no longer available though. I believe the current offering is the Edision OS Mini 4K, which is sold by Casey at Edision OS MINI 4K DVB S2X H.265 HEVC E2 Linux FTA Receiver. He is currently out of stock but you could check with him about future stock or models if you are interested in upgrading to a more stable unit. Good luck! :)

hi
I tried their own provided hdmi cable and another hdmi cable with the same result. but then I tried a third hdmi cable and seems like it's working. I turned off my tv for 12 hours and when I turned it back on, receiver has sound.

hi
I know, this receiver is cheap and it feels cheap. I would love to buy something better but can't afford it.

Hopefully that'll have solved the issue (fingers crossed).
