Why not jump from Dish to DirecTV. Biggest reason for me is that I have 1.5TB EHD and Dish uses a USB port and DirecTV uses eSATA. Not only would I have to buy a new EHD but I have over 1TB already stored. That actually is my biggest reason for staying.

Chs D* will never carry

EPIX. HD DVR's that will record 4 things at 1 time. Several HDD's w/ E* stuff on it. Things that D* did to me & my bro in the past. ABSOLUTE HD. So what goes around comes around. I might consider switching after my contract is up in Feb. but doubt it.

I love their product but I hate their new policies and customer service. They pushed me to the dark side. :) Now, I'm not saying D* customer service won't make mistakes but so far they've been great. I feel like a special customer, again.

As I have said before:
"Because I like the Dish product a hell of a lot better than Directs product and I make no apologies for it.
Yes I am a baseball fan. No I don't live in my teams network.
Yes I am a football fan. Yes I live in my teams network.
I couldn't care less about the movie channels, never had them never will (waste of money and nothing on them IMO except for re-runs).
I make the decision to have and keep Dish because in my opinion it is a better product and a better deal for me. As far as sports go, I have the opportunity to see the Dodgers play 20+ times a year when they play the Rockies or are on ESPN, Fox Saturdays (though I think Tim McCarver is a complete idiot so I won't watch the games on Fox because of him) which is enough for me (because I actually have more going in my life than watching baseball or sitting in front of my tv 15 hours a day). I see every Bronco game which is just fine with me because again I couldn't care less about any other team.
I don't plan on switching to Direct, comcrap or any other provider until Dish shuts off their satellites. Like I said, I like the product, and I like what I am asked to pay over any of the other companies..."
In the 8+ years I have been with Dish, I have had one move and one receiver go out. In both instances everything was done to my satisfaction and in a timely matter to where I had no complaints. The one time my billing was messed up because of progamming changes and their system over changing me, it was corrected with one phone call.

Price, the movie channels selection is better. E* has more than enough Sports for me. Before I went with E* I compared D*to E* just about every way I could think of. I did weeks of research on the internet and set up spread sheets to compare apples to apples ( best I could). For me E* was by far the best fit.

It all comes down to 4 factors:

Channel/programming selection/packages

price

equipment

Competition

Everyone will be different. Some value price over anything else, other value a certain channel(s) over anything else. You may be one that will live without a certain channel if you save money, but someone else may not. In some areas you may only have one choice: Dish -- i.e. no OTA reception or cable available and DIRECTV does not carry your locals. In another area you could have a strong cable company offer and FIOS to contend for your business.

People bash one company or another, but unless the other person lives next door to you, and wants exactly the same channels, their options will probably be a lot different.

It's amazing when I switched to AT&T's U-verse service for 7 months, how much I missed my old DISH Network. I don't know about DirecTV, I have checked it out before, but I hate the fact that DirecTV doesn't have G4 HD, and I absolutely love the DISH DVR. At any rate, while I had U-verse, it was torture, slow, clunky interface, glitchy, just terrible. So I switched back to DISH and man am I glad I did. U-verse HD is severely overcompressed trash.

All that being said, U-verse was still a lot better experience than Charter cable CRAP, other than HD quality on Charter WAS better than U-verse, don't know about now, but I was spoiled by DISH (and at that time I had only experienced the DVR 625.) Now I have 2 722k's, DISH is cheaper than U-verse for me, and I'm not going ANYWHERE. Kept U-verse Internet, as that was really the only reason I tried out their TV in the first place.

Yep same her. I was on the verge of switching over and at last minute realized I would loose over 3TB's of recorded movies I have saved on my EHD.....

I'm in agreement with most here. I like more movie channels, more national HD and really like the Vip722k way more than any D* HDDVR I've seen or read about. I like that when I upgrade one of my HDDVRs to a Vip one, I'll be able to use an HD on it or move the one on my 722k to it and have it work. And I really like the idea that if my 722k quits, I will still have my archived stuff to watch on the new ones, and that the remote will reload my timers.

For sports, I'm primarily a golf and boxing fan and both D* and E* have plenty of that. And in September I'll add the multi-sport for college football, and NFL the way I watch it anyway with them doing the switching.

Saving a couple of bucks doesn't hurt either.

If I were to switch to D*, I would need 3 HDDVRs to do what I do with 2 now, recording 2 SAT and 2 OTA on one at the same time, and 2 SAT with the other just is better.

The main reason I switched from Directv......
1) RUDE CSR EXPERIENCES-too many to list.
2) My bill was never the same--for what reason I don't know. I'm not a PPV fan.
3) WFN-i love fishing
4) Outdoor Channel in the 250 package. $3 additional on D*
5) Encore and Movie Channel in 250 package--Not a big movie fan but it's enough to get by on and save money on Premiums. Also with additions of EPIX I'm set.
6) TV in 4 rooms with only 2 boxes is awesome. ( yes I know D* has that now)
7) PIP- Awesome
8) CSR CHAT is absolutely awesome too. I hate talking on the phone.

DISH has more HD channels than Directv. Directv used the excuse that they didn't have the room to add more HD...they have a new sat and still haven't added some 20+ HD channels that DISH has had for months. I like the Superstation package though I'd like to have those in HD...it's past time for DISH to add them. Customer service with both services is worse than going to the dentist. I'd like full time HD RSN's. Bottom line if HD sports is your primary interest you're probably with Directv already.

Encore included in a regular package

D* added the Encores (Encore East HD and the rest), Sundance, TMC-East HD, and TMC-West to their Ultimate package. However, it will cost more...$68.99 I believe. $10.00 for HD (unless you somehow get into D*'s HD for two years......I mean life plan).
E* had TMC Xtra West rather than TMC East in America's Top 250. D* has an HD feed of TMC Xtra East, but D* subs must have Showtime. I like that more since TMC East and TMC West can sometimes be playing the same movie at the same time on some days usually on those Splatterdays. E* doesn't have a TMC in HD included or Sundance, though. Of course, I rarely watch Sundance, and I only watch TMC when there is a good movie. Lately, they play few movies that I really like.
Another thing is that one can be in a lower package with E* and add Encore Movie Pack a la carte for $5.00/month if they choose not to sub to America's Top 250.

Powering a VIP211k with an inverter

Anyone know of any price increases for Sobongo/AAD distant networks ?
