[VOOM] alternative's

I'm seriously considering Dish and their new 942 DVR:

http://www.dishnetwork.com/downloads/pdf/product_brochures/942_Prod_SheetWeb.pdf

This is new and a bit buggy, but not nearly as buggy as the 921. It
has some nifty features that will be fun to try out.

Dish of course does not have nearly as much HD as Voom, but I get all
my locals over OTA and this DVR does work with an OTA. I'm going to
wait a few more weeks to see if Voom's content is going to be picked
up by Dish per the latest rumors...

I'm really going to miss Rave, Rush, and Equator HD. :-(

Concern: "Record Digital off-air broadcasts on TV1 (playback on TV1 or TV2)"

Does that mean it can only record 1 off air program at a time? What if I
wanted to record CSI Miami and Medium at the same time? (CBS/NBC
respectively) ?

My theory is that since Echostar has bought VOOM's uplink facility and satellite, it's going to leap ahead of Direct in HD.
And I expect Dish to solicit us in short order. They may even buy Voom's content since Cablevision already has it to sell. Pure profit.
I think Charles Dolan has taken care of us indirectly.
Dish can profit by serving a small segment like we former VOOMERS and use the capacity and programming to further their SD and future HD business at the same time.
I don't think I'll get HBO for free for my $40.00 per month like I did as a VOOM Pioneer though.
Maybe I'll get more SD with Dish and get rid of COX for good and save the difference and more!

I believe that is the case as the unit has only one ATSC tuner but two
satellite tuners. If you get dish locals, either by paying extra for
them or if you are in an area where it is required you get them, then
you can record CBS and NBC at the same time, though it is likely the
satellite version is only SD for the time being (until Dish starts
sending HD locals).

I've always considered this a possibility. If someone can cheaply vault
ahead in the "HD race" why wouldn't they do it? It will be worth lots of
dollars in the not too distant future.

That would be the best move for Dish and us X voomers. Dish is being
really quite right now and we may soon have an answer. I recently sent
them a Email about the Voom issue and haven't got a response yet. This
is unlike Dish to not answer emails quickly. I'm with you Stan and
hoping for the best.

There is plenty of HD content without Voom!
