re satellite aiming

i am having trouble setting up a dish with motor

my North Latitude: 43.628
my West Longitude: 79.396

i've set my motor angle to 44
i've set my dish Dish Elevation: 39.83 or 40

also made sure that it is plumb all around

is there somthing else that i have overlook

please i would appreciate any help with this

We need to know which motor you are using to apply the declination angle to your dish. I doubt that 40° is correct for the dish elevation. Also what Satellite are you using for set up?

The elevation is ok but there needs to be a 6 degree declination so the dish should be at about 45.8 degrees.

It will depend on which motor he is using. Some use a 30° offset shaft and some 40°. If he is using an offset shaft type motor such as a Stab or SG-2100 then he (we) will need to know the degrees of offset or bend in the shaft. Once that is known then you take 30° (or 40°) less the declination (6.7° in his case) to derive the dish elevation setting.

If it is a straight shaft motor such as the Moteck H180 then the dish setting is the Latitude less the declination by using a inclinometer.

In any case his dish would be set to a number less than the 40° he is currently using.

Could you tell me which Satellite you are going to aim at for your system set up? Probably you will use AMC5 (79W) but wanted to make sure.

My fortec 80cm dish was off by 4 degrees in elevation, calculated as 39.4, but ended up being 43 degrees, others have reported up to 5 degrees difference; so not only move left-right, try up-down also. If you are not using a meter (which is much easier) and only using the receiver, wait 10-20secs after each move... Good luck.
