Rca DTC210 VCR Control with Sony VCR

Cannot get reciever to control Sony VCR. Tech support said buy a new VCR, but the new JVC also did not work. Piece of junk Synphonic does work. I want to exchange the new JVC for a VCR which does work but do not know what to buy and be sure it will work. Any suggestions? Do you know of a VCR that does work with this reciever?
