Blah days of February edition...

1. Any old timers remember when St. John's was good? Rotten game last night. Duke stinks, St. John's is worse. We need the city players to stay, Norm.

2. The 1985 Duke/St John's game on ESPN Classic was better. Like the shorty shorts...:p

3. Rumors of bad things for the Montreal Canadiens. Mafia ties, gambling, game fixing, under age girls, prostitution, drugs. Could be real, could be the French Canadian media trying to sell papers.

4. The Kostytsin brothers and sister Rose (I mean Roman Hamrlik) were tied to some minor things last night, but it could be the tip of the iceberg.

5. NBA trade deadline day was a dud.

6. A-Rod is going to have a difficult time keeping track of his lies. It's a lot easier when you tell the truth.

7. He said the female reporter BROKE INTO HIS HOUSE. Then apologized and said he was wrong. How do you get that wrong?

8. I was popping into the Yankees/Mets game five of the 2000 World Series a little last night, to break up my alma mater's monotony. Did you know Al Leiter threw over 140 pitches for the Mets in that game? Gave up the Series winning hit in the top of the ninth to Luis Sojo on like his 143rd pitch, with John Franco warming up in the bullpen. This is after a two out walk, then a two out single by Brosius. Surprised I don't remember that being a big story back then, like when Grady Little left Pedro in the game in 2003.

9. Watched Harry and Tonto the other day. What a sweet movie. Art Carney and the Cat. In HD too. It was great.

10. Juno was also a great movie. The 16 year old girl was a little too clever, it sounded more like 40 year old writers were talking, but it was still a great movie.

11. I predicted the Rangers fighting for a playoff spot back in December when they were near the top of the Eastern Conference, and I was right.

12. I think goaltending could be the undoing of the Red Wings in the playoffs.

13. I just don't see the Penguins missing the playoffs.

14. Jim Calhoun is very difficult to root for.

15. The guys here touting their conference like it's so amazing could look silly in March.

16. Is Coach K on Lost? Just like Richard, he looks exactly the same no matter what era you see him in.

17. Speaking of Lost,
how did Hurley get out of jail and onto the plane the other night? Why did he change his mind? Why was Sayid with a marshall? What about Desmond? He's not going back? 'We're not going to Guam, are we?' Great line.

18. Will you watch the Academy Awards?

19. Here is what you need to know about Brett Favre's season with the Jets. September 28, 2008, he throws six touchdowns against the Cardinals, who actually turned out to be pretty good. In Green Bay it would have been time for another statue, 4,000 articles of how great Brett is, everyone would have bowed in his presence. Here in New York, it was the same day the Mets completed their historic collapse and fell out of the playoffs with a loss to the Marlins on the final day of the season. There was very little discussion of Favre.

20. Four Big East teams in the top 10. Didn't know that until I said it (I mean salsa said it) in the NCAA thread. Thanks salsa.

It is a great show, like you said, they give you two new puzzles for everything they answer. With less than 40 episodes to go, you have to wonder how they will possibly find the time to answer them all.

Totally agree. The time travel thing has me so confused!

I changed my post to add a spoiler tag like cybok suggested. You should change how you quoted me as well, or people will see that. I think salsa watches Lost too.

Sorry. I'm the queen of DVR's too, just not Lost...I watch it that night, because people talk about it so much. I always put current things in my posts, I didn't think it would be such a shock. If you have the Mets season finale on DVR and haven't watched it yet, don't read #19...

Compared to what happened in the episode I didn't reveal much, as usual on Lost every answer leads to twice as many questions.

But in the future I"ll say at the top if there are any spoilers. :up

You should change this post, as to not confuse others, like the people who are confused in the Chit Chat forum. (You know who you are. Maybe. Maybe not. If your not sure, return to the "welcome" thread and see if you are there. If you are, you may be confused. If you aren't there, you may not be anywhere.) This has nothing to do with the "Others" on Lost.

Lost answers :)

Ben's lawyer got Hurley out of jail....they mentioned this a few episodes back. Seeing how Hurley had a guitar case, I'm guessing Charlie came and "visited" him and convinced him to go back. Not sure about Sayid. I bet Desmond goes back to the island via boat.....I wonder if Ben killed Penny. He was awfully bloody.

12. I think goaltending could be the undoing of the Red Wings in the playoffs.

Osgood is getting ten days for off for a "Break", calling up the golaie who seems like has been in the minors forever as the next golie. Conklin has been solid, but in the playoffs you need to have a golaie that gets hot to get the finals, even with the firepower the wings have. I hope the goaltending gets fixed soon!!

3. Rumors of bad things for the Montreal Canadiens. Mafia ties, gambling, game fixing, under age girls, prostitution, drugs. Could be real, could be the French Canadian media trying to sell papers.

A French Canadian Mafia?! Very interesting.

5. NBA trade deadline day was a dud.

Tell me about it.

9. Watched Harry and Tonto the other day. What a sweet movie. Art Carney and the Cat. In HD too. It was great.

I've never seen that. I'll have to add it to my Blockbuster Online Queue.

10. Juno was also a great movie. The 16 year old girl was a little too clever, it sounded more like 40 year old writers were talking, but it was still a great movie.

That's Ellen Page for you. She's also amazing in Smart People and Hard Candy.

14. Jim Calhoun is very difficult to root for.

Even more difficult to root for is Bob Huggins.

15. The guys here touting their conference like it's so amazing could look silly in March.

I agree.

16. Is Coach K on Lost? Just like Richard, he looks exactly the same no matter what era you see him in.

I'm convinced he dyes that jet black hair of his!

18. Will you watch the Academy Awards?

Of course. Not that I always agree with the winners, but it's the Super Bowl for the movie industry. Next to sports, the art of cinema is my #1 hobby. Most of the movies up for an award this year aren't on DVD/Blu-Ray yet, so I haven't seen most. I have seen Changeling with Angelina Jolie though. She was excellent in it and hope she get's the award for Best Actress.

Wow. You're right. I barely remember hearing anything about that day for Favre.

This isn't chit-chat? Man I'm confused.;):D

Eastern European.

Sandra

When did I do that?

14. Jim Calhoun is very difficult to root for.

It's much more difficult to root for Mike Shasheffski.

I lived in western Massachusetts in the 1980s through the mid 1990s. There are so many eastern Europeans there that even non basketball fans knew how to pronounce Kryszewski when they saw it in print, and would have known how to spell it if they heard it for the first time.
