From this DVD File article. It's a nice article, discussing both formats. In addition to the title comment, he comments on Toshiba's position that the first HD player below $200 "wins the war." Also, "...it’s interesting to note that recent sales trends, as reported by Ultimate Electronics and Abt Electronics, indicates that Blu-ray Disc players have been outselling HD DVD players. At Ultimate, BD players are selling at a rate of 67% higher than HD DVD players. The introduction of Sony’s $499 BDP-S300 was the turning point." and "... store reported that HD disc players outsold DVD players in June. "

Still, only about 800,000 high def discs are sold each month, based on Q1 figures from the article. It's a good read, touching on other topics as well.

WOW! $899 for the Onkyo HD-DVD player!! And Samsung's dual player over $1000! Who said we were all ready for those low cost players?

I'm hoping for a $500 or even $600 profile 1.1 compliant BD player (not otherwise stripped down), preferably with an ethernet connection.

The only reason I would consider the LG dual is for the ethernet connection- but then, does anybody know if it would work with the Blu-ray side? Anyway, $1,000 is too much.
