rain-x or de-icer?

This is our first yr of DirecTV. We live in mtns with snow and ice starting in mid-Oct.
I'm thinking ahead here (perhaps I'm thinking too much), but am wondering if it would hurt the dish to put rain-x on it; or even de-icer once ice gets on the dish? Theory for rain-x is to keep ice from sticking.
Any ideas (cheap) for winterizing dish?

Find a Professional Satellite Technician, and have them put on a heater unit on the dish...

rain x wont stop the ice, nor will pam or wd40 for that matter, if your in the northern mountain ranges you really shouldnt have to worry about snow/ice build up on the dish, but if your in the southern mountain ranges then there is that possibility. I dont know how good the heaters are as Ive never seen or heard of them until today so do your research on them.

I use a garbage bag. I attach it loosely so that the wind can blow the bag around and prevent snow from sticking to it. It isn't pretty but it works.
