I bought a Toshiba 26AV50 HD TV to replace an old CRT in the bedroom. I have a R22 DVR in that room. My HD DVR is in the family room.

I hooked up the HDMI from the R22 to the Toshiba and was not happy at all with the image quality. I then used the component video, and got a little better picture, but still has some problems in that the colors are a little off and sharpness is not really there.

I know that the R22 is not HD, but I am wondering what my options are here? Would better quality cables help? Is it right that the picture from the HDMI connection doesn't look that hot?

I called DTV and that really sent my blood pressure up. HD DVR lease fee is $199.00 plus $20 "handling fee" plus I would have to re-up for 2 more years. Not sure if I just got an uncooperative CSR, but it was basically take it or leave it at that price and terms.
Is that the bottom line on upgrading to HD or is there a better deal than what I am being told

Thanks in advance for the help.

It appears the newest software 0354 does not support HD for anything other than your locals for the R22's. If you missed 034C, you may be out of luck for HD (except for locals), unless a newer software version brings back the other HD channels.

From what I "hear" eventually the R22 will be all HD.....but it might a six months....

Yeah hopefully they will implement it sooner, but who knows? I saw how 034C basically opened it up to your subbed channels for HD, then ordered a R22. I didn't know they would take the HD access away or I would have activated it a few days earlier.

Oh well. I'll just keep my eyes on the new upcoming software and test it out and see if anything does the trick. Luckily I already have a HR21 that I use for HD, the R22 was for another room that I'm not in as much. But I thought it would have been fun to record a couple of different NFL games during each week and watch them again later. Now one will have to be in SD, until a new software revision rolls out.
