Hello,
I have Dish at my vacation house. I wanted to get rid of cable at my permanent res and just bring the dish recievers back and forth. So, I bought a second sattelite dish(500) and am currently installing it. Do I have to point the dish first and get a signal, and then do a check switch test? I ran cable from the reciever to the dish(which is lying on the floor next to me) and ran a check switch test and it said somethings wrong. I thought the check switch test was simply a test to make sure the LNBF and reciever where talking? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the point dish menu to help guide you in pointing the dish and getting your best signal. When you know you are getting a good enough signal then you can run a switch check and be done.

Thank guys, I found a sattelite, have 50signal strength. Now I'm getting a wrong sattelite message. Its downloading the guide, but no channels work. In the point dish screen I have 119 chosen.

Ok, One more question (for now) I gave a Dish 500 with a dpp Lnbf. Do I have to have cable coming from 119 and 110 to the receiver? Right now I only have 119.

you only need 1 cable.
the most likely reason you are only picking up just one sat is that you are off by 9* and are picking up 119 with the 110 (or vice-verse).
standing behind the dish the 110 lnb is on your right, 119 on the left (the signal criss crosses off the dish)
cover one of the lnb, with foil to check if the signal is coming from the correct lnb (process of elimination)and adjust the dish accordingly.
If you move the dish west you may need to drop it down slightly and again vice-verse
9* is about the with of your fist at arms length

and rerun check switch to confirm

Dish 500 LNB 119&110

Hello,
My LNB has two 119 connections on one side and a 110 on the other. Do I have to run 1 cable from each 119 and 110 to my reciever. Im locking onto echostar 119 with 50 percent strength. Then I run a check switch test and it does show 119 and 110. My guide is downloading, but I cant get any channels at all. It then either says total signal loss or my card is not authorized to view or purchase, and yes I am current on my account. Any info would be great, and take it easy on me, I just started playing around with this stuff about 4 hours ago.

With a DPP Twin you only need one cable to a rcvr. If you are getting a complete signal loss then you need to repoint the dish and check to make sure you have both 119 and 110 at around 70+ signal. If you are getting a rcvr not authorized error then you need to check the smart card to see if it is pressed all the way in. Also just a question what rcvr are you useing?

your receiver will become deactivated (UN-authorized) if left unplugged or without a signal for a length of time usually a week or two.
you need to call dish and have them send you a "hit"
be ready to give them the R # from sys info page if you have more then one receiver on your account.

DPP lnb has two outputs on one side and an input on the other.
each output is capebale of 110+119 as the switch is built into the lnb
each output can also suply two signals to a dual tunner if a seperator is used
You never did say what reciever you had... this info could help us help you

Another reason for being able to receive only one satellite on a Dish 500 is the skew adjustment. If your dish was purchased from someone out of your area, then the skew adjustment is probably wrong.

Visit www.dishpointer.com and figure out what your pointing parameters are. Set the elevation and skew according to the numbers.

Make absolutely certain that your mast is plumb or the numbers don't mean anything.

Self-installing is overrated.
