Are the the same or are they different?? If different, how and which is the better to buy with the receiver? Thank you.

DVR & PVR are pretty much one in the same

DVR-Digital Video Recorder
PVR-Personal Video Recorder

Dish Network referred to the recorder in their SD-only boxes as PVRs, and to the ones in their HD boxes as DVRs.

OK...Thank both of you for your responses.....1 more, what is DVB?...Thank you, Tony Rome

To us, it means the fundamental digital video television standard that we rely on for basic satellite service.
DVB @ Wikipedia is good enough description.
Some things that are -not- DVB, are 4DTV, a pay TV satellite standard, and anything DirecTV broadcasts over satellite.

Wiki didn't have much to say about PVR and DVR .
The two terms seem to be used interchangeably, in my experience.
Though, I'm sure some marketing wag thinks they are entirely different. -
