Why is it I can hear my (king vq4550) dish move when receiver/tv are turned off?? Is this normal?

Certain housekeeping functions happen in the background, even when the receiver is in standby. Downloading the 9-day guide comes to mind.
Hmm don't know about that, wally receiver resets every night, so I have to download the guide every day
Hey there, SPower. What comes to mind, if it's not the guide updating, is that it's checking your software to make sure it's up-to-date. While the nightly update does this as well, our receivers are programmed to check the software when in standby too. Are you noticing this happening several times a day? Do you know if the Wally is plugged into a power saver surge protector? - Caleb S
Wheh difference would a surge protector make?
FYI, any receiver is technically "on" even when the power is off.
