I may be getting me an apartment soon and I was wondering if anyone's had trouble with management about putting recievers in 2 rooms. If they can hook me up at the apartment I will be getting it in the living room and try to get it in the bedroom. My main concern is the bedroom may not have a way for dish to hook up my receiver without drilling a hole or something. Also with dishmover do you have to pay for the service?

You can always run the cable around the baseboard in an apartment without having to drill holes.

Just make sure you got a balcany facing south, Southwest. If you don't have a balcany, make sure you get a letter of permission to install a Dish before you sign the lease papers.

The management is more willing to sign a letter of permission if they are eager to rent an apartment than they are after you already moved in.

If you don't have a balcony the cable does have to run from the Dish itself into the apartment somehow. For that, I had them drill through the rear bedroom wall. And they made the hole big enough for two cables since I have two receivers. They do it pretty clean though, using a plastic housing for the cables, and they staple the cable down along the outside so the cable is not just dangling. I found I could pretty much get them to do whatever I requested in that area and I just asked my landlord for permission with the understanding that it was being professionally done.

You need to talk with your potential landlord and ask directly!!
This will avoid any possible headaches down the road.
If you don't see any other dishes on any balconies or on the roof I would beware.

Also, get any exceptions in writing. You'll probably have to be under some sort of commitment if you are getting a dish mover (even if it is still under your original commitment). It sucks to get verbal permision and on site approval to have the LL/manager change their mind on you and make you take it out.

DIsh does not allow the use of flat cable any longer.
That's the problem with monolithic corporations whose employees don't have real training or experience. :(

Flat cables do have a LOT of loss. How much? Dunno. I consider them as equivalent to 100-150 feet of RG-6.

So, if the dish is on a balcony, and the receiver is right inside, we're talking around 25' total distance. No problem (until the flat cable wears out - which they do - don't put them on the movable side of a sliding glass door).

OTOH, E* also says that DishPro maxes out at, what, 200'? But that's using RG-6. What if you're using RG-11, or (to be absurd), 1" Heliax? :D

I used those for D*. I gave the customers the first one free, a replacement if necessary, but they were paying for the third, no matter what, because I found that they usually broke from people opening the window and closing it while the thing was twisted. I find that people take better care of things that are NOT free. Because free is worthless. Then again, I walk away from 90% of apartments, and I absolutely will not do a tripod or bucket mount unless they are in my zip code, and only then if work is horribly slow.

Get a letter of permission before the tech gets there..Have the property owner/ mgmt company spell out any restrictions to the normal install of the system......Typically I will go directly to the office myself and see what they will allow..If I can't do a spec job( i'm not getting busted) I tell the customer, sorry..can't do it.. Any questions should be refered to the mgmnt office...They make the rules..and I'm out of there....good luck
