Question about DHPP

Hi. I am going to be installed tomorrow and I just have a few questions. I know I said that in another thread, but I just thought of this one.

Ok, when I signed up, they had a deal with the Dish Home Protection Plan for $5.99/month. I chose not to because the dish and all equipment came with a lifetime warranty. If anything ever breaks, they will send a box and you ship it back and they send a replacement.

Now, I am wondering, I think I should have gotten the home protection thing because even if I do return something for a replacement, I don't know the first thing about installing it.

What do you all think? Would I be better off paying the extra money for the protection plan?

Thanks

no lifetime warranty if one year warranty only if it breaks after 90days after install you pay shipping and handling so if I were either get the 18month committement and get it free or if scared of a contract get it after 90days warranty.

Ok, I just called DISH and asked about this and they told me that the replacement is a one time only deal. But she didn't mention that it was only within 90 days. Not very good...

I may be better served paying the $6.00 for the warranty. I was also told that I could call and get the warranty at any time. I don't have to have it on my service start date. Not too sure about that one. It wouldn't make much sense. I mean, if I have had the equipment in my home for say 5 months and I decide to get the warranty, and something breaks the next day, wouldn't that be weird? I would think you would have to get the warranty when the equipment gets to your home.

The answer is an unqualified YES!!!!!!!!!!..
Declining thew DHPP does the following..Denies you the credit of the $49.99 you paid as an activation fee...Increases the cost of truck rolls from $29 to $99..Also, the install goes out of warranty after 90 days..The equpiment is under warranty thru dish as long as you lease it..However you must pay any install fees to connect the replacement EQ should the need arise..
A look at the cost difference..One service visit is a min of $99....Even at $5.98 per month for the DHPP that covers 16 months of DHPP fees...
You may want to change your mind.....
This comes form a person who looks at someone with raised eyebrows when they try to sell me an extended warranty...This warranty works very well...Consider your options...Carefully

I didn't go for the 18 month commitment, so I don't get the $49.99 back. So that doesn't count :)

However, I see your point on the cost. I believe I will call and change it to warranty.
Thanks for your help :)

I have the DHPP. So far I had one no-hassle/no-cost replacement of my (leased) 811's remote, but that might have been in warranty anyway. Even if you're leasing, a replacement is not completely free - they charge S&H to the tune of $15-$25 I believe without the DHPP. (That might be after the 1-year warranty; I'm not certain about that.)

That said, I'm not sure the $5.99 is really worth it on a monthly basis. How many replacements/re-installs do you really expect? Altho' I don't condone this, others have reported that even the E* techies will tell you to wait until something breaks, call and add the DHPP, then call-in the problem. YMMV...

The DHPP is worthless. If you have a problem you can call and add it. Get your problem fixed and then cancel it. People do it all the time. Don't waste your money on it.

And what makes you think that DISH doesn't know that? Or that a "solution" won't be put into place in the future? Just a thought... just a thought. I would remind you the number one reason warranty issues are mispaid (or not paid at all) are customers moving around warranties without retailers knowing about it first.

Take the 18 month committment and get the warranty FREE for 18 months and get your $49.99 credited back on your first bill.

The 18 month committment will do 4 things for you....

#1 You get your activation fee back on first bill

#2 FREE Shipping on all replacement receivers and parts

#3 Discounted $29 service calls

#4 FREE DISH Mover if you move

If your receiver goes bad and you do not have DHPP, yes they will replace it under warranty but charge you $14.95 shipping!

I deal with a 300-400 hundred customers per month, and every week I get 1 or 2 customers who think they are smart by declining the 18 month committment because they think they are too good to sign a contract.

Consider this, I maxed out my account last week at my home and needed to open a 2nd account for the 7th receiver. I was gonna do a Cash and Carry account with owned equipment for a Model 622 receiver, but I decided it was best for me to lease the 622 and take the 18 month committment for the simple reason that I have no intentions to cancel my service within 18 months. I got an extra $50 for signing the committment and if I need a replacement box its sent out FREE of charge.

I'll never need a service call and I'll never need a Dishmover, but im not cancelling service anytime soon so why not sign the committment

The only problem with the commitment is that I live in a very wooded area and right now all the leaves are off the trees. What happens in a few months when spring comes and the trees are full again and I can't get a picture? Do you think they would let me out of the commitment?

Im a dealer and even I took the 18 month committment, and as a dealer you know im going to make sure I get the best possible deal when setting up an account in my name!
Thanks. But my problem is trees. As I replied to another post right now the leaves are gone. What happens in spring when I can't get any reception? Will they let me out of the contract?

Straight up, If it was me installing for you tomorrow I would cancel the job due to NLOS - No line of site. That is a complete waste of time/money and effort.

Well they came and did the install and it looks great. Beautiful picture. Now I can't speak for this summer, however :)

"As long as it lasts 12 days" - is what the tech was thinking. Good way to get canned. Say those words around management, you are canned.

Back to the subject, at least you are aware that it might not be there - maybe those trees wont be there come spring time. Ya never know.

What's this about 12 days?

Yea, I kinda figured it could be a problem. I tried to do as much research as I could before making the call. I am very much a layperson, however :)

Look at it this way...if it doesn't work out, at least they have the pleasure of knowing they put holes all in my walls LOL! J/K...The guys that came out were very nice and professional, although they were kind of "woodsy" I guess is the word I am looking for.

I am actually hoping it doesn't dissapear come summer. I really like what I see so far. Now, the change in channels so far as number, etc...will take some getting used to. But I am getting a lot more channels that I did with Comcast. And for a lower rate, too. So I am happy :)
