Pretty sure they actually go back to when locals were provided by a wired antenna that connected to the top of the old 500 Dishes so that signal form both that and the Dish could be fed to the Receiver

Ah... The separator was designed to separate out two DPP signals to feed 2 tuners, such as those on VIP equipment. That was before the sat tuners were separated inside newer receivers such as Hoppers.

They rarely get installed and most times, they get improperly supplied to people who are long-time Dish customers that are not bad credit or pay as you go accounts, so I'll modify those to a Hopper 2. Not to mention, it's just stupid that they still exist.
