my contract ends on april 28 and i decided to cancel directv. Will i have return the reciever back to Directv. I got directv equipment exactly one year ago. Also i plan to install dishnetwork next week and the dish people told me that directv has no way of knowning my equipment has been removed. is that true just want to check. I would hate to get fined by directv. They just told me to call directv on the 28 of april and cancel.

This is also correct; I would wait at least one full day past your year date.

Why don't you at least call D* to see what type of offer they will make for you to stay as a subscriber? My one year anniversary is up this month and they made a very attractive offer for me to stay as a subscriber.

I would be interested to see what reason would get you to move to E* in the first place.

If you are leaving D* I would call and see how much it will cost to leave 1 month early. I think that the prorated termination fee will be around $12. It may be cheaper to just cancel your services once E* has been installed. That way you would not have to worry about remembering to cancel on the 28th.

call directv first to see what they will offer you.

if you want to go with dish, wait until that system is installed and active before you call and cancel directv.

there may be a LOS issue, the installer might not show etc, at least this way you would not be without tv service.

one of the reasons, i'm switching is because i can get Espn Deportes channel on Dish and i can get all my soccer channels all in one package the Dish Latino HD Silver package. And yes i called Directv and they offered me 50$ dvr, 4 months of showtime free, and 6$ a month for sports pack. I was not all that satistified with that offer so i decided to go with dish.

I called tonight and cancelled D*, I had 12 more days on my 1 year commit, but they will send a final bill pro-rated. I told them i was leaving because of HD Lite and he tried to say that they sent out the full PQ and he wanted a tech to come and see what was wrong with my equipment, I told him that it was on their end and not mine and that it is a proven fact about their PQ sucking, and that I just wanted to cancel and that all the king's horses and all the kings men couldn't bring me back to DirecTV again.

I have had E* for 1 year now, and have been comparing the PQ on both and E* wins, plus the 150 HD channels on D* is just a pipe dream for now, I asked the CSR to name me 150 HD channels and he was clueless, E* has 25 now with more on the way, while D* has 7 and HD Lite. It was not a hard decision to make, the best bang for my buck wins out.

For the 1 billionth time!!!! The 1500 LIL HD & 150 national HD number is clearly stated as the capacity of the system when the last of the new birds goes up. We all know that there is currently not enough HD to fill all that capacity; but God forbid DirecTV tries to get in the position to be ready in advance. Man, some of you guys will bitch about anything; and need to learn to read and/or listen to EXACTLY what is stated and stop trying to manufacture reasons to "FUTZ" with CSRs that are only trained to read from the script. With comments like the above you guys are really showing that you are just as clueless as they are.

I also tried Dish side-by-side with DirecTV for 2 full years (just ended) and neither is more than 1% better or worse than the other in any area. They only extra HD Dish has over DirecTV is the over repetitive, over hyped Voom and Dish has no NFL ST. You guys need to just pay for what you want and watch it and stop trying to turn every thread into a RAH RAH session for your service by spreading half-truths and subjective info; IMHO.

I HAD D* for the last 8 years and just got tired of waiting for more HD, and VOOM has lots of new content and Monsters HD is worth it by itself. The CSR is the one that said 150 HD by next year and I just set him straight, as far as ST goes I am a college football fan and find the NFL too predictable and most games are snoozers, no bands, no real traditions, college at least has the pagentry to go with the games and have lots more unpredictability than the pros.

I have to chuckle. I can understand you preferring VOOM and E*. Its your perogative. But to see the lengths you go to justify the greatness of college football in your eyes to Pro Football is just hyperbole.

Bands did you say Bands? As annoying as it is hearing Gary Glitter being played after every pro touchdown..its worse hearing the USC band drone on after every first down!!

You called out the CSR at D* and now Im calling you out. I would like to know the ratio of "snoozers" that occur in NFL as compared to games in the NCAA. (Ya gotta stat for me on that one?)

I would love for you to write a bit contrasting and comparing the tradition of the Washington Redskins to that of Notre Dame (btw the 'skins have a band)

And when those top twenty football powerhouses line up against a IAA school the outcome of those games are what I would call predictable.

See its ok if you prefer E* over D* or D* over E*. Its a personal opinion. You happen to like College vs Pro football which is fine too. But lets not get into this crap again. When HD comes full circle and the nation has a plethora of HD programming to choose from then we can decide. We are at the infancy of the HD era. Lets wait to see what shakes out in the coming year before we start casting stones.

In other words...what Charper1 said :D

boston,

nice post!

BTW, read between the lines in his post. where he lives, the PRO team is crappy or he doesnt have one.

the NFL, there is no substitute.

Gotto go with enoree on this one. I've been told by more than one CSR, even at customer retention that by the "middle of next year" there will be "150 or so national HD channels". When a CSR tells you that what are you supposed to think? Either that they don't have a clue, that they are telling you what they have been told, or that they will tell you anything to get you off of the phone. You all tell me.

As for pro vs. college ball. I'll take college any day. I don't have to pay a fortune to get into a game, I don't have to pay a seat license and the players act like they want to play. Of course those are all generalizations and I still like pro ball, but I like the college game a lot more.

My local pro team is the Carolina Panthers, but being a Indiana native I am a ND fan and usually pull for DA Bears. And it WAS the CSR that said "150 HD channels by the end of the year", and I just don't like someone giving me a BS statement, I might have stuck with D* if they had a more robust HD pack, But I get over 30 Local digital channels from my antenna and really don't care about LiL, so E* just had a more attractive option for now, my local co-op telco is offering fiber digital TV right now and if they offer HD when my E* commit is up and have a good selection,I will most likely make the jump, as I already have DSL with them and they offer lots of bundles.
