I called Dish yesterday to try and explain the issue I am having with my receiver, and from that conversation  I figured I would have better results asking some of you.

Here is the issue:

I have the HDTV setup signal to 1080i, 16:9 aspect ratio. I watch XYZ HD content, turn off receiver for bed. In the bedroom I have the 2nd turner set up for my analog TV. Watch TV in there, etc, go to bed.

Next day when I turn the main HDTV on, the screen is black bared as if it’s trying to show HD content in a 4:3 aspect on a 16:9 screen. However the image (which is 16:9 HD) is squished into the 4:3 box with black bars filling the rest or the screen.

To fix, I can do one of two things. Reset the receiver, and it comes back up full screen.

OR

Go into system setup, HDTV setup, and flip flop the signal from 1080i to 720p (or vice versa depending on the last time I did this). Then the confirmation window pops up, now in full screen (Not black bared 4:3), I choose YES keep this format and everything is fine again.

The fix is pretty easy, but it's really annoying having to do this just about every day. The dish tech was pretty convinced I was doing something wrong, and getting him to admit that there is a hardware issue going on here was near impossible. He kept telling me to "hit the * (format)" button. This does nothing but format the image in the black bared screen. No help.

NOTES: You can also reproduce this by going to HDTV setup, choosing 480P, and then going back to 720P/1080i. At which you will be stuck with the issue described above, though I had to reset the receiver to get this situation unstuck.

So anyway, anyone else notice this?

You can press the '*' key on the dish remote and it will cycle thru the aspect ratios.

This just formats the image inside the black bared screen. No dice.

A few other notes, this is going through a HDMI switch to a projector, which I suppose could be confusing the receiver.

If you can temporarily connect using component cables, if the problem goes
away join the many with HDMI issues.

Is the 722 running in Single or Dual Mode. We have ours hooked up to a bedroom tv and the front room TV (which is the HD tv). We haven't seen this issue.

Just a thought that it may be something related to single mode.
