pulling my hair out aligning dish

i dont think its a receiver issues, drake made the best damn receiver out there

Drake was a very good receiver back in the day. But the Chaparral Monterey had adjustable bandwidth from 14-36 mhz and low and or high side TI filters. That allowed the best tuning to any signal on the arc. You could drop the bandwidth for weak stations and really clean them up and run the feeds at 36 mhz for fantasic analog video. I loved my Monty, only cost me $1500.00 in 91 without the VC-2.

If the stations on the 4dtv digital have enough signal to have some headroom above threshold that you want to watch you'll be good to go. To really see how well you dish is tuned will be in the ability to have high quality numbers on the HBO's on G1... 24/7/365.

Good Satellite Viewing :)

like i said this dish is not compatible with adjustable feedhorns, the adjustment is done at the feed pole

You should still be able to play with the F/D ratio on the feed if its a Chaparral or knockoff with adjustable scaler. The feed pole sets the focal length.

the lnb does not have an adjustable scalar

to bad they dont make some sort of a lnb where you can move the f/d in and out by a small servo!

watched my 1st cartoon on analog haha

the fox feed listed on lyngsat rolled family guy tonight

cartoons on analog have no differences at viewing distance

when you look close up, there is no misquito noise

I set my F/D, feedhorn centering and focal distance 20 years ago and never have needed to touch them. I have a very strong quad leg support. The only adjustments I ever adjust when peaking the dish are N/S head (azimuth) and elevation.

Mosquito noise is a by product of compression. Analog would only show that if they are using a compressed digital feed for it's source. I still like analog better than digital, the first generation signals in analog blow away digital any day in my book. :)

yep pretty much

I have seen about 30 seconds of the show and wont watch it....looks pretty stupid if you ask me

yeah but how come my perfect 10 could never see sheppards chappel, but could pbs, and my new dish can see sheppards chappel, but not pbs? they both were tracking the arc

The reason analog satellite signals come in so nice vs over the air analog is because the video on satellite is transmitted in FM.

Digital with out the compression can be as good, if not better. It is only when they introduce compression that life begins to suck.

and the numbers are in

here are the level and quality readings taken from some random satellites

AMC-4 @ 101W

Golden Eagle Broadcasting
Level 70-71 Quaility 99
VCTV Level 71 Quaility 57-60

Galaxy 23@ 121W

Soundtrack USA Level 78-79 Quality 98-99
Soperessa West Level 76 Quaility 66-76
Al Jazeera English Level 80 Quaility 43-47

what i dont get it that even with the dish peaked, the quaility jumps arround

also since im getting equal readings on diffrent satellites im thinkin the dish is tracking good, do you think the micropak isnt the best for digital?

also the nasa mux far west comes in horrible

well since you "randomly" picked two satellites on the western arc for you how about eastern?

try EWTN on G11
This TV or TVU on 87W

you mention NASA is "horrible"...define horrible
-low signal so it cuts in and out?
-no signal?
-lower signal?

Heck on my 4 footer I locked NASA at 31 which is just above threshold and it worked fine with no breakups for almost an hour that day I watched it
