PS3 + total of 8 movies

I tried to do the checkout (just to see what happenes) and it is not giving me the 3 movies for free. Says my total for:

60 gig version
2 pirates movies
King Arthur

is $562.84

I believe it only credits the price of the movies back at they very end - after confirming shipping method & address, payment type, and then on the page with the button for "complete purchase" you should see the movie price credit.

Frankly, if I believed it was true that no 1.1 compliant player was coming out this year, I'd probably buy into this deal. And then wait for a -live player later. If there is a later for high def discs.

I have until Oct 31 to stew over it. Or have the wife kill it.

Give in, you're not going to see a 1.1 this year. Nothing announced yet, and the holiday season is almost here. No way one could get rushed to market this late.

They just might be holding off announcements to clear out current stock.

I'd have to investigate PS3 outputs, etc, anyway. No rush, I have a couple of months.

PS3 almost does what I want- looks like it's pretty much 1.1 compliant, except for PiP, which I don't care about. And it has the internet connection, which I do care about. I'm going to have to write up a pros and cons list.

Biggest con for me is no IR remote, so I can't use my awesome Harmony remote. Also, it doesn't fit into an entertainment center nicely (not a big deal). On the plus side, its probably one of the best/fastest BR players out there.

Personally, I'm waiting for a 1.1 compatible dual HD/BR player to replace my PS3 when they come under $500. I think I will be waiting a while.

Yes, that grates. I have a Harmony also. I'm hoping for a decent IR remote system for it to become available, so I can then program the Harmony.

Fit and appearance also bother me. Especially that ugly 4 letter word on it. And I'm not a gamer. College son isn't either.

I'd pay $500 or $600 for that! Maybe even more, if the internet connection worked with Blu-ray also.

Had a talk with She Who Must Be Obeyed last night. She's not going to fight the purchase, if it comes to that. She just thinks it's wasteful, since we watch so few movies. Hard to argue with that.

Actually, I re-read the Amazon link. The Oct 31 date is for the 5 free movies (but the ad in the Sept Sound & Vision pg 23 says must buy by 9/30 & postmark by 10/31). The Amazon deal with 3 additional free movies is "until they run out." I hear the Sony site is out of 60GB machines. Costco today is selling a package of an 80GB PS3 with MotorStorm and the Blu-ray remote for just shy of $660. No 60GB in stock at the Fairfax store on Price Club Plaza. As a side note, it was interesting to see a 42" Vizio LCD for $1099, and they were flying out the door.
