PS3 PVR Mini Tutorial



So how do we use the PS3 as a PVR in order to watch, and record TV programs?

Requirements:

• Gentoo Linux Install
• MythTV
  • Gentoo MythTV Setup
  • How to use MythTV
• Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U - TV
• Micronas GO7007 Linux Driver

Luckily the gentoo community has already setup a wiki on how everything goes together. Click here for detailed instructions.

The steps are:

• Kernel Configuration
• Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Setup
• Gentoo Packages to recognize the PX-M402U-TV
• GO7007 Linux Driver Setup
• MythTV Setup
  • PX-M402U as a capture card
  • Setup recording profiles
  • Stablizing /dev/sound/dspN

And if you want to burn dvd's of your tv programs, here is the howto from gentoo.

Hopefully more savvy Linux guru's can make this clearer. We're always looking for some help here at ps3mods.

Great stuff...I just wish I had time to play with this stuff. At least PlayTV is coming, but perhaps I'll have time next month.

Anyone here done this? I've never seen a complete review of the other OS installs on the PS3 and how it affects things like BD playback and stuff (if it does at all)
