I am in the Lynchburg market, which is on Scott's list where I guess I am eligible for the Dish 1000. There is a local station that I cant get because i never installed a second dish....

so do I just call and ask them to upgrade me to the Dish 1000 and will they do it free of charge since I am on that list??

What are the benefits of the Dish 1000, I tried to figure all this out by searching, but most went right over the Hound's head!!!

thanks in advance.

Also, what are the chances of them turning on the =CBS-HD station even though I am not in a o/o market....are waivers ever granted for this?

Hello. WDBJ does NOT allow waivers. I called twice and was told that they simply do not do waivers, they will lose money. WSET will not do a waiver either, althought they don't even broadcast in stereo.
The chances of CBS in HD is very slim!!!!

To get WB and UPN, you might get the D1000, if they have any in stock. I would call ACS in Roanoke, they do the Lynchburg installs, and ask them if they would install the D1000.

As far as advantages, not many, other than you can have WB and UPN and the VOOM HD channels, if you want them, without having a second dish.

ACS, for the 61.5 dish, installs a second D500 dih, 20", with the Y-adaptor and one dual LNB. You could see if they still will do the 61.5 dish for free, you could repoint it to 129 later, or, if more HD programming, like locals, are put on 61.5, you'll already have the dish for 61.5

When I called Dish to upgrade to the 1000, they said that I still needed the second dish because the 2 locals were on the 61.5 (WJPR and another one)

I thought that they were being mirrored on a sat that the 1000 could get? am i missing something?

Yes, both WJPR and WDRL are being mirrored on 129. I would really just get the 61.5 dish while you stil can get it for free, unless you just want the D1000.

If the local HD channels ever become available they might be on 61.5. If not, you could always repoint the 61.5 dish to 129.

You might be able to set up a "second dish install' with Dish Network, but call ACS and ask them if they can instal a D1000.

Dish will tell you that the local Dish Network installers will be doing it, but they contract ACS to be the local service provider for the Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Danville areas.
