Progressive scan

Was told by few that the only way to get progressive scan to work is with Componet Cables, is that true? I recently bought an upconvert DVD player and want to hook it up via HDMi, but if that dosen't support the Progressive scan, I may want to just leave it on componet. Any thoughts?

How 720p or 1080i upconvert works can depend greatly on the player; what make & model do you have? My model works on both and has a hack to allow "protected" discs still work via component. LG DVB-418
