Just wanted to let any Canadians know that the $20.00 programmable RCA remote at XS Cargo works really well. I was able to find codes that worked with our Sony VCR, Sony Stereo, Koss DVD, Sharp Tv, and use learning mode to have it emulate the Fortec Star FTA receiver. The power is starting to go to my head!:D

I use a Logitech Harmony remote and it allows you to program in all macros and devices on their website. So far both my Fortecs and a Traxis FTA receiver have been on their website and i didn't even have to do a learn command.

I'm always look for a way to go down on the number of remotes as 8 remotes is getting nuts. But it seems I always need one or two buttons from the original manuf's remote that other multi-remotes don't have. It's a conspiracy!

Yeah...I've looked at them before but I didn't want to pay that much and then say "Oh yeah! I only need that remote for one button now instead of 3!"

Remotes sure can get expensive. My friend just bought one for $1400 and paid another $399 to get it programmed!!!! I think he's nuts, but then, he has the money to blow like that... hah

But anyway, my Harmony replaced 6 remotes plus it controls automatic lighting, so I enjoy pushing one button to do many things at once.

Well, basically they use WiFi and download your movie guide, show logos, and you can scroll through all that on the remote. Then, they have advanced macros that do stuff like, you push a button to "watch a dvd" and it dims the lights, turns on all appropriate equipment, turns on popcorn machine, changes room temperature, switches to a particular channel...etc. They also stream music to the remote (some models).

Here is a popular $1k+ model:

Personally I can't afford those models, nor do I really need them for my home theatre setup... So I opted for a Logitech Harmony, about the cost of an FTA receiver.

I have a AllForOne URC8901 which is less that $30 and does control Coolsat, DVD Recorder, Hometehatre system, VCR etc. It is worth the buck :)
