Hi All, newbie here.

I've had the Hopper + 1 Joey for about 3 weeks. We had no problems setting up our regular shows to record (we upgraded from the 722) but my kid is going crazy because his baseball games aren't working right. Here's what's happening:

We find the upcoming games and create one-time timers like always.
The game records, and info shows that 3 or 4 hours of programming have been recorded.
When playback starts the first 30 seconds or so show the sports channel's splash screen that says the game should be starting soon.
Then playback freezes. Does the same whether from the Joey or the Hopper.
Ironically, if we set up a timer for a rerun of the same game sometime around midnight it usually records properly and can be played back.

Support has been useless, I've rebooted the hopper and joey countless times. Any chance this will be resolved before the World Series?

Thanks for any ideas...

Elisha

Is this on HD regional sports channels? Would assume so. Hehe,,who would watch in SD?

The reason I ask, is, I have had same problem... With Sun HD.. But not the Sun SD channel...

I don't try to record all the time, nor play them all back, so I can't say if it's repeatable on my end.

But, yea, there is an issue.

On a side note, can't figure out why Inside the Rays 30 minute TV show is blacked out in my area on Sun Sports. :/ I get the Rays games no problem.. Heh

Well unfortunately you can't set manual timers with the Hopper, (from what I've heard) or I would suggest setting a manual timer to start a few minutes late, once the RSN HD channel has gone live. All those ALT channels point to the same slate and then go live to the various games at game time. When they go live the channels transponder info changes. My guess is the software on the hopper cant handle the actual satellite info changing once the recording has started. The SD channels are live all the time is why the repeats always record correctly.

This happens on occasion even on my vip722, so I don't think it is unique to the new system. Really frustrating to come home expecting to watch your game only to find out it didn't record right. It is really bad on the alternate channels, happens more often then just the HD channel, but it is very frustrating. I was hoping to upgrade to a Hopper in the future in the hopes the newer system wouldn't do it anymore, looks like they still haven't figured it out.

Try setting the timer to 0 minutes "start early" padding. That should prevent the switchover from the splash screen to the live feed from causing the freeze.

Our engineers are aware of this issue and a software update should correct the issue.

This has been working for me. I was doing this on my 722 and I kept doing it out of habit when I got my hoppers. All of my Tigers games have recorded correctly by setting the timer to start 0 minutes early. I also add the maximum 90 minutes to the end of the recording in case there are extra innings.

Thanks, guys, I have one happy kid these days.

I tried setting the timer for 0 minutes before the start of the game (instead of 1 minute) and so far 3 games have successfully recorded. That seems to be the answer, at least in my case.
